  • Supplements

I restarted Atkins on Jan.1, and I have just today bought supplements to take. I need to know if they are allright. Also, is it safe to take so many at the same time. They are: Potassium - 99mg
    Co Q-10 - 50mg
    Calcium - 600mg with Vitamin D
    Chromium Picolinate - 400mg
    Acetyl L-Carnitine - 250mg

Also is there anything else that I should get? Thanks, everyone!

    Re: Supplements

Most of these should be fine although Potassium can be a problem with some people. It relates to cardiac function. I also use L-Glutamine.

It's not about the results. Its about the process.

      Re: Supplements

Carlae, looks like you have a winner. I did plenty of research before I started supplementing. The 99 mg of potassium is not a problem, it's a grain of sand on the beach. Your body can handle 4.5 grams of potassium a day, so 99 mg is really nothing. Potassium is very dangerous to both be deficient in or over dose with. You are probably best off not wasting your money on it.

I also take the Chromium Picolinate and L-carnitine in the same amounts as you. All of the research I have read says that the doses we are taking will have no effect on our weight loss. I disagree because my weight loss resumed again after taking these supplements. Supposedly the L-carnitine is present in large amounts in meat, beef especially and that we get more than sufficient amounts through our diet. I personally will continue wasting my money on those two.

I don't take calcium or Co Q10. I have heard good things about the Co Q10, and I know calcium is good not only as a supplement against osteoporosis, but it does speed weightloss too.

        Re: Supplements

Carlae, are you taking a Multi vitamin as it has all those little Bs and Cs and XYZs that we are missing in our diet. Look for a brand that doesn't have iron in it, Centrum C Silver is a good one. I would also add fish oil for the Omega. Again get a good brand and not a cheap one as I worry about mercury in them.

          Re: Supplements

Hey, everyone! I want to thank you for your responses to my question about supplements. About the potassium, now! I always heard that if you had cramps that it meant you were low in potassium. I will stop taking that one if it is dangerous. I will also pick up a multivitamin. The only thing that I worry about is gaining weight from taking vitamins. They always seemed to make me eat more. As it is now, I haven't been very hungry at all since I started the WOE. I love this so much, and I feel better than I have in years.I don't know why I ever stopped. I won't let it happen again.

          Again, thanks!!
