  • Rereading the book

I've been unpacking boxes in the new house and I've found my DANDR. I'm going to sit and read it again. I love the board but it's motivating to read.

And I have other ATkins books but I get discouraged by all the recipes using Frankenfoods.

      Re: Rereading the book

Kellymch2006, everytime I read any of the books about this WOE I either find something new or get a better interpretation of what I thought I knew.

Plsmachic, frankenfoods are engineered foods made of chemicals that are low in carbs but not really food. Foods packed with sucalose, xylitol, etc... A good example would be that Carbsmart Ice Cream. That's just setting someone up for failure. The serving size is far less than a person who craves ice cream would actually eat. I wouldn't touch that crap with a 10 foot pole because I know I'd eat 10 servings. If you can do it, more power to you. I know if I play with fire I'm gonna get burned.

Yeah, tfek70, I always learn something, too.

Doesn't this board go by the 02 version of DANDR??? I can look it up but I'm thinking it does.

Anyway, I'm really disappointed with so much of the book. Almost every single recipe calls for Atkins bake mix or some other "atkins" frankenfood and the whole book sings the praises of "carb-controlled" products. Sad.

I went and looked it up over on the induction forum. It is the 02 version of DANDR. That surprises me because most people on this board, including myself, don't believe in using all that stuff. especially at the beginning.

I'm not a fan of frankenfoods either, but used sparingly they really help out sustaning this WOE. I used franken-honey today to make a pork shoulder, and I used a small amount of franken-syrup on my flax pancakes this morning. I generally don't use them except maybe once a week, certainly not daily.

What is your situation???? Are you currently 205 at 5'11"? Are you on OWL???

I'm trying to get two weeks together cheat-free and I don't seem to be able to manage it. :-(

And for me, cheat-free means no sugar-free products. But like today, I found a sugarfree candy bar on clearance and I just HAD to have it.

Anyway, if I can make it to next Sunday pretty much on the straight and narrow, I'm going to start next Monday on OWL.

              Oh, I'm 5'10" and I weigh 185. I'd like to get to 170-175.

                  Re: Rereading the book

I'm officially 3 miles from Florida in the lower east corner until I retire next year. I'm OWLing, but usually stay within 5 grams of 20. I eat all of the foods in higher rungs, I just don't see the need to get 50 or more grams of carbs a day. I find this WOE very sustainable as I am doing it. As I get closer to my "goal weight", I am going to be readjusting my goal. When I started I was at 241, and 190 put me at 16% body fat. Now that I'm at 205, I am still at 24%. I'm really not going to adhere to a pound goal, but a body composition/appearance goal. I have lost some muscle mass in losing this weight, so I could go down to 180 or so to meet my body fat goal, then add muscle back on to 190 or 195. We'll see how it goes.

                    Re: Rereading the book

I see what you mean with the carbs--staying around 25.

I have so many questions about OWL that no matter how many times I read the book or read this forum, I can't wrap my head around.

There are so many variables in weight loss. So I don't understand in OWL that I increase my carbs by five grams and if I quit losing weight, I go back down. Well, what if I ate too much sodium that week or what if it was that time of month? or what if, what if, what if.

Oh, well. God Bless the people that have figured it out.
