  • Is this the place for me?

HI Everyone, I posted on 14 day induction, but I have tried this several times before- the commercial phoney Atkins way, and I am here to tell you I have recommitted this time to the 2002 book ONLY!! The first time I tried this I did it hardcore 2002 book and after that, wanted BK McD's (w/out bun, of course) for egg mcmuffins and cheeseburgers and Atkins bars as snacks! Disaster! No wonder it didn't work. Those people at Atkins SUCK now- they should just close up shop as they are doing a disservice to Dr. Atkins with all of their "Phase 1 "friendly" bars. I sometimes had 2 a day and in addition, I was using other carb bars with 3 net carbs... Always wondering why nothing was working. This first time I did induction (and only time) the right way- I lost 15 pounds in 3 weeks and I believe I am resistant to Ketosis. I now still only have trace and I am one of those obsessed people that wants to see PURPLE- but I won't quit. I am on day 5 or 6 now, but I plan to stay on extended induction this time-probably a month and I am staying away from the scale as it tends to depress me when I don't see it going down and I don't want to quit. I will just say I am 148 and my goal is 125. I tried to go to the ticker and follow the directions but I can't get it to work for me so I will just update my weight the old fashioned way. The 1 question I do have-and I know a lot of people ask it is, why do people feel you HAVE to give up the 2 cups of caffeine in the morning? I just can't and what evidence is there that this is the nail in the coffin? The headaches will kill me-thank God it is only 2 cups. I used to be a Starbucks Venti Coffee and that is about 4 cups of coffee equivalent (or shall I say Caffeine equivalent) to Dunkin. Anyway, for STACers (I AM), I would love to know if anyone still drinks real coffee in the morning and has had success. Thanks in advance and I really, really hope to finally do this for a lifetime and the right way...

You seriously need to let go of your deep purple obsession!!! That's what my sticks read and I'm not dropping weight left and right. Again, for the millionth time on this board....the consensus is...it does NOT matter what color your magic pee shows up as on the stick!!! It only matters that you're in or you're not!! I had more weight loss with small and moderate readings on the bottle than I ever have with deep purple. I personally know I need more carbs to lose fat and that's why the deep purple sucks for me!

If you can lose 15 pounds in 3 weeks of staying on plan, the only thing your body is resistant to is...sugar and other white stuff.

Make the choice NOT to let the color dictate you. You'll be okay. Just watch for hidden sugars and don't forget the exercise and water...LOTS of both. Good luck and keep posting.

Re: Is this the place for me?

      Hello and welcome!

I am a coffee drinker and have not given that up. I drink a super sized mug of black coffee in the morning, (easily two cups), and another around 1 or 2 p.m. I have been losing about 2 pounds a week, and have lost 14.5 pounds total since Christmas. The caffeine may slow my weight loss, but I am planning on eating low carb for the rest of my life, and if it takes me a year or more to get to goal I really could care less. It took me several years to get this fat, and I don't expect the weight to fall off overnight.

I am on extended induction and have been super legal about my food choices, but my black coffee is here to stay!! I have to make sure to drink lots of water, though. Not drinking enough water is one of the things that definitely stalls my weight loss, along with ground beef, too much salt, and too much cheese.

      Best of luck!

Thanks- I am looking forward to seeing some real results after being tricked by the marketing group at Atkins.

I have kept my coffee, and still just the two cups I have always drank. The only difference is that I don't use packets of sweetner. I use liquid. But remember the coffee doesn't count towards your H2O. Water is water! It is in addition to whatever else you may drink. I also agree to loose the strips, added cost with little or no value as far as I'm concerned. Make sure your carbs are mostly from your veggies! Good luck! Look forward to hearing about your success!!

Re: Is this the place for me?

I actually started drinking coffee ... not alot. but one or so a week... just for some variety. I don;t think it has effected me. I think the only way you will know is by eliminating it and seeing if there is a change in your weightloss progress. Coffee for me is a bit of a laxitive... and I welcome this...

Deep purple on the stix for me indicates that I am dehydrated... and the more water I drink... sometimes the stix don't change colour at all. I use them faithfully. at least 3 times a day... neurotic I know but there is some validation for me... to see that I am making pink at least some point in my day. Just don;t be obsessed... if you get the deep purple... I SAY DRINK more water.

Also... I quit drinking diet coke... but when I was drinking it... my deal was... for every can I drank... I had to drink 2 bottles of water right away.

Again I am babbling... Good luck!

Re: Is this the place for me?

Thanks! I don't have much weight to lose, but I am trying to schedule a surgery (breast lift), and if I don;t get the 20 pounds off, I will be disappointed in the results. I really want to commit to this after YoYo starve (which doesn't work anymore anyway- I have lost the willpower for that once I got over 40!

Re: Is this the place for me?

LOL at YoYo Starve...you make it sound like a professional diet plan, hee hee.

I think, from your other posts and this one, you're in a similar boat as me with the weight you want to lose. You're much taller than me - I'm only 5'4" - but when I start trying to lose weight I get the old "are you kidding?" routine. I'm happiest at about 110-115. That's just where I look my best.

I was very overweight at one point- more than you, actually, since you're so tall! If I don't stay on top of it, I'll be right back where I was. I swore never again!!!

I've been thinking about a breast lift, too. My boyfriend of 5 years thinks it's a waste of money, and furthermore, he doesn't like the idea of slicing and dicing his favorite body part, which he thinks is just fabulous the way it is. Talk about wanting it for myself and not someone else, I guess.

                  Good luck this week!

Re: Is this the place for me?

My top weight was 170, and that was in 2000 -and since then it has been no higher than the 148 where I am now...back down a few times to 125, but never able to stay there very long. That is the YoYO starve diet for me- I go to one meal a day and can do it for awhile, but I end up miserable, and with my now 3 year old, it is hard to achieve now... My husband is like "you don't need the breast lift" too, but I guess that makes me more determined to get it. I think this will motivate me to lose the weight as I have a goal for surgery no later than April. I am 43 now and would like to really make this work for a lifetime.
