Has anyone tried a juicer to get their veggies? I ask this as eventually, it would be nice to be able to actually combine all of them and have at 2 sittings via juice. The product is about 150 on-line, but maybe a worthwhile investment for lifetime Atkins? Anyone? Thanks-Cara

Re: Jack Lalane's Juicer
No Cara- I haven't bought one yet.
I looked into it and I am waiting to find a quality used juicer on crsiglist. I have been to many stores looking at the different models (not just JL). My dad has 2 of the vitamix machines and they swear by them. Maybe when I am on the fruit rung I will splurge for one. Several of my friends are into juicing and I would like to start when I am able add fruit into my diet.
Let me know if you get one. I am also currious on the quality and ease of cleaning.

Re: Jack Lalane's Juicer
Um. One of the major reasons that eating a veggie or fruit is so much better than the juice is that you're taking the fiber out of it when you juice it. Also keep in mind that if it takes something like 5 apples for 1c of juice (I am exaggerating obviously), that you'll just be taking the sugar from all 5...
Not that I don't love a good juice... especially carrot juice... I just don't think it's worth it.27/f/5'10"

Re: Jack Lalane's Juicer
I love juicing....not too sure where it would fit in with Atkins....maybe on maintence. I have a juicer that I got for 45 bucks at walmart and it is all you really need...don't waste your money on those "brand names"...I will find out what type I have and report back tomorrow.

Re: Jack Lalane's Juicer
well, the pulp can be used in other things-like baked goods for phase 2 (with Atkins approved stuff-or add it to a quiche...) I am looking at this long term as I can't give up after 11 days with no success. I have to find out what I am doing wrong and why I have not seen 1 pound loss yet-sigpicStart 2/9/09

Re: Jack Lalane's Juicer
I'm sure I read in DANDR that juice was not allowed - too much sugar. I'm not 100% sure though.
Would be great if an expert on the book/plan could chime in here...Tangotori (Vickie)

Re: Jack Lalane's Juicer
well the jiuce is only the vegetable pureed into juice form. the commercial (infomercial) makes even celery and cucumber juice combined look good!sigpicStart 2/9/09

Re: Jack Lalane's Juicer
I also remember seeing that juice is not allowed. I will also say though that the book was written having the fiber removed from the juice. If that is not the case, I am not sure what the difference between a juicer and a food processor would be...?27/f/5'10"

Re: Jack Lalane's Juicer
Here is what VitaMix says.
The Benefits of Vita-Mix Whole Food Juice
Vita-Mix whole food juice includes both the juice and the fiber from fresh fruits and vegetables. Simply toss whole fresh foods into the Vita-Mix container. You'll enjoy fresh, vitamin rich juice... full of fiber and important phytochemicals... in just a minute.
Vita-Mix whole food juice is smooth and delicious to drink because the Vita-Mix 5200 breaks the fruit or vegetable fiber down to tiny microscopic particles and releases more juice than a Juice Extractor. (This is WHY we sell this product!! No other product in the world does this!) The secret is the high-speed 2 peak horsepower motor and the customized hammermill and cutting blades. Whole foods are literally pulverized down to the cellular level, so all the valuable vitamins and enzymes are readily available for digestion -- with full flavor.
The Difference between the Vita-Mix and a Juice Extractor....
The Vita-Mix uses the whole fruit or vegetable to make juice, so you get a more nutritious juice using less produce, with less waste and in less time than when using a juice extractor. Research has shown that the pulp a juice extractor discards is more nutritious than the juice itself. Vita-Mix Whole Food Juice keeps all the pulverized fiber in the juice -- and it's not only drinkable, it's delicious. The health benefits are the big bonus for you!

Re: Jack Lalane's Juicer
Um. While I would like to give a more detailed response, I have to be in a meeting in a couple minutes.
I really feel like that's a waste of money since (literally) a food processor will do the same exact thing. Your body will digest the "valuable vitamins and enzymes" just as easily, no matter what form they are in...
Then again, it is not my money. Happy juicing!27/f/5'10"

Re: Jack Lalane's Juicer
JUICER INFO JUST FYI they are not all the same.
I was thinking this also as i am having a hard time getting my veggies in for some odd reason. I was like well heck why don't i add some good veggies a couple eggs and there's breakfast. But then i started remembering FIBER!!! However, some juicers the REALLLLLY expensive ones lol do give you a lot more of the fiber remaining than others. But from what i have heard the cylindrical juicers even for people serious about juices aren't the best and in many it takes MOST of the nutrients out of what you are juicing and not giving it to you.
So back to making an effort to cook more veggies -- those steamer bags are awesome btw.
