  • Any helpful supplements?

    Hi!

I lost 65 pounds in one year as a first birthday present to my twin boys! I was able to keep it off for two years until we took a cruise and I gained over 15 pounds in 8 days! ( And I thought I was being careful!) Damn cruise!!
Regardless, I've creeped up to gaining about half of that 65 back and now am not doing well the 2nd time over. I think that my metabolism has slowed and I don't exercise any more that I did the first time--who has time?!

So, I'm asking if any one has had any success with any supplements in the carb metabolism, Boosting metabolism in general and fat reduction?

I've gone to South Beach and not much difference in results. So, I'm looking for a little guidance from someone who's going through, or been through, what I'm experiencing right now.

    Thanks

    Shawn

The best supplements for fat burning are fat, protein, fiber, self accountability, exercise, water, and very few carbs. There is no magic pill. Hang out with us for a few months and everyone will be seeing a whole lot less of you in a good way.

How did you lose your 65 pounds before?

I tried a supplement and saw no results. It was the Hydroxy cut Hardcore from GNC and I was told it was the hottest selling fat loss supplement on the market. Guess what? It doesn't work and is going back to GNC today! I agree with TJ-if there were a magic pill or something that really worked, people would not have such a hard time losing. I did 14 days of induction and saw no progress so I am trying again for 2 more weeks until I give up. I think I was eating too much dressing and too much cheese-I need to force more vegetables. I wish there was a magic pill! The only real appetite suppressant that works is phentermine and that is a prescription. My doctor would laugh me out of his office... Twenty five pounds doesn't qualify for an appetite suppressant.

I lost the 65 pounds before by followiong the principles in the book....meat, cheese, salads galore, eggs, half and half, etc.
However, I was asking about the metabolism part because I think I've found a difference in my metabolism from then and now. If I'm doing the same things I did before the results aren't as significant. It's tough getting exercise in with a busy work schedule and three kids, twin boys, age 5, and a little girl, 3. So, although I'm not looking for a magic pill I am looking for a supplement that will assist in my endeavor. I'm in for a good multi, but was looking to see if there is any other supplement that would help. Even Dr. Atkins advocated some supplements and gave patients higher dosages of some.

My metabolism has changed BIG TIME too. It sucks. I will continue to try this for another month perhaps, but clearly if nothing happens and I am cutting back to 20 carbs with no progress after 1 1/2 months, this is not the diet for me and nothing will make it work. I may have been "not exact" with the veggies and maybe a little too much cheese, but c'mon... restricting carbs to this level for 90 days with no results will tell me something is really wrong and will prompt a visit to the doctor. I am going to stay loyal to fit day as evidence for the doctor that I can't lose any weight and ask for a diet pill to speed up the metabolism if only for a few months. Good luck and I am always open to hear someone found something at the store to assist in this difficult and long journey!

            Shawn,
Sorry I didn't catch that you lost your weight the first time doing Atkins. I see now where you said that. I thought you were "diet shopping" for a miracle cure. That being said, I have noticed that this is the slowest the weight has come off for me too. I first did this diet a decade ago and it was much easier then. I think age is the biggest factor for me. I was going to blame it on the Democrats, but they were in office in 98 too. I have supplemented this time with chromium picolinate and L-Carnitine this go around and it may be helping. I was stuck at a weight for quite awhile, added chromium, and the scales moved. I got stuck again and added L-Carnitine and the scales moved a little bit more. Those are the only two I use.

T.J.- Can you share the brand or where to buy? Like I said, the Hydroxycut didn't do anything for me, but maybe I didn't give it enough of a chance...

Cara, the L-Carnitine is by YourLife, purchased at Walmart, 250 mg. The chromium picolinate is by Spring Valley, also from Walmart, 400 mcg. Glad you're still with us.
