  • What wierd things do you do?

    Hi everyone,

I thought I'd start this thread to ask you all what kind of wierd things you do to 'trick' yourself to eat well, exercise, lose weight, stay on the path etc. How do you keep yourself motivated and moving forward?

Here's one thing I did. I bought too small pants and forced myself to wear them. I was in a size 14 jean comfortably so I went out and bought a size 12 - one pair. They did do up but with lots of effort and plenty of rolls out the top. I just decided that these would be my main pair of pants. So, I looked terrible for quite a few weeks and now those pants are starting to look and feel a lot better.

So, what do you guys do?

I don't think I do anything strange or weird to motivate myself into staying on track. I did take out some of my old clothes, especially jeans, to motivate myself into fitting into that pair as a visual type of mini-goal. I've lost 3 sizes, so far, and am looking forward into fitting into the next size down! Right now, I can slip them on. The next "goal" is to get them zipped and buttoned up. And, of course, the main goal is to fit into them well without them squeezing me or pressing the fat out over the top of the waistband! lol

Other than that, I try to join as many challenges as possible, keep focused and plan my meals well.

~I posted hot models on my fridge - right next to the picture of me at my biggest.
~I set mini goals (i.e. MUST drink 1 ltr of water by 10:00 AM... if 10:00 comes around and i haven't finished it by then, i chug it - then get the next one)
~I can't let a negative thought enter my head ("I'll never be thin enough" - instead: "when i'm thin enough")
~And i think the BEST thing i do to keep myself on track...
If i'm feeling tempted or like i'm not getting to my goal fast enough - i pick up DANDR... Open it anywhere and start reading... ALWAYS puts me in a great mood!

I don't think this is a weird thing, but I've found that if I read a book while on my treadmill the time flies by sooo much faster. This week I told myself that if I want to read my book (a murder mystery) that I can't just lay on the couch and read it, I have to be on the treadmill. So far it's been a great motivater for those days you just don't feel like exercising.

          Hi,

Chynna: yes, the clothes strategy is helpful - motivating and saves money. I inherited a bunch of lovely clothes - they were all too small and now they are starting to fit (some of them) so there is lots there still 'up and coming' to keep me motivated.

FutureMrs: I like the fridge idea and the mini-goals. Those mini-goals help me out too. I should locate a 'before' picture and have a good look at that. I definitely will post here once I reach my 'after' in a few months.

Rose74: oh yes, and at my gym, the treadmills all have television - we didn't have one at home until very recently (and only my mother-in-law really watches the news at night). I've never seen Oprah Winfrey in my life and her show came on the other day - the time flew while I watched it and ran. Suze Orman - the finance whiz was on there. Interesting.

I also try to think positive thoughts and catch and limit those negative ones quickly.
