  • Miscounted, do I have to start over?

So I was tallying everything up tonight and I discovered, much to my dismay, that I overshot my 20g today. I came in at about 25g. Today was day 2 of induction for me.

    Stupid broccoli.

What do I do now? Do I go back to day 1 tomorrow? Or shoudl I just learn my lesson about broccoli and move on. I think I was going to do more than 14 days of induction anyway because of the amount of weight I have to lose.

    Question #2
I find that I'm ravenous. I'm more hungry now than I was before starting.
And I don't think I'm skimping on my meals. I think I took in about 2,800 cal yesterday and about 2,900 today, what with the uptick in protein and good fats.

Is this just part of my body's adjustment to induction? Will this pass?
Was it just because I was more active today?

I'm not feeling compelled to cheat, just to eat. At bowling today I watched people eat pizza, and was cool with it. (Yay, me!)

    Your thoughts will be appreciated.

    P.S.
    I think I drank 2 1/2 L of water today!
I'm pretty proud of me. But I may be up all night... LOL.

Re: Miscounted, do I have to start over?

Just move on, no need to restart. During Induction, vegetables are limited to three cups per day -- maximum one of these can come from the "Other Vegetables" list, while the rest should come from the "Salad Vegetables" list. Moreover, over half of your net carbohydrate should be from vegetables. If you follow these rules, you won't go over 20 g net carbs.

If you are hungry you should eat, but make sure you are not eating out of boredom.

Based on your weight, you should aim for more than 2.5 L (that's about 72 oz), imo. It's not easy at the beginning, but it won't take long to get used to it.

Re: Miscounted, do I have to start over?

      Thanks for responding Georgiana,

Now I wonder if I really did go over? I completely understand the rules. I did have 2 cups salad and 1 cup cooked veggie, from the approved list)

Here's my count for the day.

Fit Day said I had 3.3g in my bacon and eggs this morning.
(3g were from the scrambled eggs. It seems excessive considering the ingredients were 3 eggs, water, coconut oil and S&P.)

.1g from a single piece of thin celery, so that's 3.4g total.

3g from my 2 cups of lettuce at lunch. That's 6.4g

6g from the cheese I had through out the day. That's 12.4g

And a whopping 13.5g from a cup of steamed broccoli w/ a little parm & cream I had at dinner (that's what killed me). So that's a grand total of 25.9g

But if Fitday is over-counting me... then maybe I'm okay.

I admit I had a little too much cheese today, but that'll be fixed when I get some lower carb snacks "quick grab" in the house. I'm thinking boiled eggs, jerky, maybe some nitrate-free pepperoni, stuff like that. I can cut back if necessary.

As for the water, what should I be drinking? I drank 2 of my 1L water bottles and 1 of my .75L water bottles. That's about double my normal intake. What should I be shooting for?

That's because FitDay assumes you used milk in your scrambled eggs. Use "Eggs, whole, raw" instead and enter each ingredient separately.

FitDay is not over-counting you, but it computes total carbohydrate. In DANDR 2002, Dr. Atkins wrote we should count net carbohydrate, not total carbohydrate. You have
NET CARBS = TOTAL CARBS - DIETARY FIBER

There are different opinions on this. One says you should drink half your weight, in ounces. So if you weigh 240 lbs, you should drink 120 oz. Another says you should drink 64 oz, plus another 8 oz for every 25 lbs you have to lose. This means that someone who has 90 lbs to lose should drink about 93 oz. However, these are just rough numbers.

Just keep on keeping on.. No one ever got fat by having too much broccoli

The first few days you will sometimes feel hungry..eat something with some fat..Me beef helps me.. Drink a glass of water.. Find something to do and hopefully your mind will go on to something else..

I should also add, all foods should be measured raw. Some vegetables significantly decrease in volume when cooked (e.g. spinach).

Re: Miscounted, do I have to start over?

I thought i was starving during the first week of induction too. What i found worked was water. I was really thirsty. Also, i also noticed that i wasnt starving, it was more like the carb monster was dying cuz he wasnt getting fed anymore and he wasnt happy about it giggle. I hate water cuz i feel so bloated after. but found that if i drink it luke warm that it went down much easier and now i am a 80+ oz a day person where before coffee/soda was the only i liquid i got.

Re: Miscounted, do I have to start over?

you will notice over time the things you couldn't live without before, don't matter any longer. I can sit at the same table as french fries and not even think about them -- mashed potatoes hold no power over me! I truly do not miss bread, rolls, popcorn nothing left over from my old life!

After a couple weeks your tastebuds change, so if you try something now and don't really care for it, wait awhile and give it a try again. One of my favorite things now is zucchini....before Atkins you couldn't GET to me eat "that crap"....now I have it thin sliced and raw for a snack or with my meal...go figure!

YEA YOU!!! Keep up the great work

If you are on day two, you may not be in ketosis yet. As soon as that hits, the hunger will almost certainly vanish and you may even forget to eat!! Tomorrow should be the first day - enjoy xx
