Ruthanne, how long has it been since you quit??? I'm looking forward to my one year anninversary next month and next week will be my three year anniversary with no booze. (See why I hate giving up sugar? I'm so booorring.)
Anyway, TJ, I wanted to tell you two things that I'm sure you've heard before but here goes: First of all, seeing how much you like Forum Support, there is an absolutely wonderful smoking cessation forum at About.com. It's very active and anytime you log on there is someone on it. Every post is responded to right away. I spent a lot of time on that one and this one when I first quit smoking.
Second thing is Chantix. It's a miracle. I took the medicine and continued to smoke. Chantix blocks the nicotine receptors in your brain so you continue to smoke but you might as well be smoking a carrot. The good thing about that is this: People who quit smoking cold turkey give up the nicotine AND the psychological crutch of the actual cigarette. With Chantix, you can smoke away while you're going through the nicotine withdrawals. AND Chantix has a small amount of nicotine so it makes the withdrawals easier.
I swear to you if I had known it was going to be this easy to quit, I'd have done it a long time ago. Plus my husband smokes and he didn't change his habits at all as far as smoking around me and I swear, it doesn't bother me at all. (well, it bothers me that he's rude and inconsiderate but it doesn't make me want to smoke.)
After about three months, I never thought about smoking, I never had cravings, nothing. I feel great.
Let me tie this back to weight and carbs and all that so the moderators don't dump my post.
I gave myself permission to eat whatever I wanted because I thought that quitting was that important. That lasted a month and a half and I got over it.
This is kind of a long post for me but I can't sing the praises of Chantix and the about.com smoking cessation forum enough!!!
