  • Question about Coconut Oil

I have heard that Coconut Oil is a good weight loss tool! I bought some, but now I am trying to figure out what to do with it. Is there foods you cook with it, or do you take it by the spoonful? I really hope I didn't waste what little money I have on it. Thanks!

    Re: Question about Coconut Oil

I mix it with splenda, cocoa, a dash of vanilla and salt, spread it on a butttered plate and pop it in the freezer. Basically it is oily chocolate bark. There was a recipe but who knows if I can find it! Just get it to a thick paste and it will work.

    Wait.. found the recipe
1/4 cup melted coconut oil (4 TBSP)
    3-4 Tsp cocoa powder
    lg pinch salt
    1/4 tsp vanilla
    1-2 tsp splenda to taste

mix up and put on the buttered plate, break off pieces when they are frozen and baggie them up

      Re: Question about Coconut Oil

I knew this afternoon was going to be awful at work. When I came home at lunch time, I threw 2 BIG spoonsful in my mouth! I needed the calories and the fat. Guess what? No sugar plummet or craving today in the afternoon!! I only ate some beef franks quickly at work for lunch and had string cheese a little while later. It's been a light food day so far but that coconut oil will keep everything in check for you...cals, fats, no cravings, no sugar highs and lows. I also use it to cook salmon. It's good!! There are several threads on the board about it.

It also gives me a burst of energy. I was running late getting back to work at lunch time but I dropped everything on the counter and grabbed the jar of coconut oil because I knew I'd make it through the day better with it. I worked 12 hours today on a couple hours of sleep. Soooooo glad I took that extra minute to fit it in!!

        Re: Question about Coconut Oil

On the group "Stallbusters United" we had this discussion last week. You can use coconut oil to fry your eggs, any meat you eat, put some in your veggies when you cook them. It has a slight sweet taste and a few minutes later you'll get a great burst of energy.

Some people add it to hot tea or coffee but the oil slick on top of my coffee was a little more than I could handle! The other way to get it in your system is to eat it off a spoon. I can do small amount at a time but not a tablespoon .... not even a teaspoon at a time. It's just a personal thing!! I keep mine in the fridge and when you use the spoon to get it out of the jar it looks a little like chunks of real coconut which makes it easier for me to eat. Good luck!!

            Re: Question about Coconut Oil

I use it like butter for baking (Atkins baking). Some times I just swallow a table spoon. I found out there are 2 different kinds. One has a distinct coconut flavor and one is plain.

I made the heroin wings with it once- they were great.

It is great to help combat yeast as well.
