  • Hi there

Hello all. Just wanted to introduce myself... my name is Dianna...

I've done Atkins before and managed to be successful at it (at first) but since I had no support from anyone, I didn't stick with it. I did lose approx 25 lbs before I gave up and went back to my old habits.

I'd like to give it another try... I'm SUPER unhappy with my weight and I'd really like to make a life change!

I'm about 200 lbs right now (I fluctuate between 201 and 205 really) and something that is going on with my mother is my motivation this time around... she's MORBIDLY obese and recently had gastric bypass surgery - during the procedure she had a stroke and lost the use of one of her legs... she's slowly gaining that use back, but because of her excessive weight her physical therapy is going very very slowly.

I'm watching her struggling through things because of her weight and I really REALLY don't want to end up in her position when I'm older... I've actually maintained my current weight for quite a few years (it's actually just a bit less now than it was 5 years ago... my highest weight was probably about 220 I'm ashamed to admit)

I recently began a new job at a daycare center (as their cook, of all things) and I'm hoping that working all day long will keep me from snacking on JUNK all day long and that will assist in the weight loss as well... also working full time again (after a 6 year hiatus) will keep me more active as well...

I've got a beautiful 6 year old daughter who's smarter than I am... she's a charmer and she's very talented. (dances and sings and an amazing performer already!) I haven't done a lot of wandering around in here, but I'm hoping there's a photo gallery of some kind so I can show her off!!

I'm also a widow. I lost my husband unexpectly when my daughter was just a one year old. She doesn't remember all of the fun she had with her daddy when she was little... doesn't really remember him except for the stories that I've shared with her about him. She's so much like him that it amazes me. (I imagine that she's a lot like me as well... but I don't notice that as much!)

If I've posted this in the wrong section, SORRY! The board moderators are welcome to move it (just tell me where to find it!)

I hope that I can become an active member in here...

    Re: Hi there

Dianna, Welcome to ADBB!! Yes, you have come to the right place. All of us here have been in the same place that you are, so you aren't alone. I'm sorry about your mother, and can understand the motivation that you have. My brother also had gastric bypass surgery, but so far, after a year, he seems to be holding his own. He weighed 356 and now weighs 210. He offered to help me have the lap band surgery, but I wanted to try this again. So far I have lost down to 173. Just read the DANDR
book and stick to the plan. This WOE is wonderful!! If you do it right, your weight will go down in no time, and you'll not have any hunger. The food is good, the people on this board are fantastic and very supportive. If you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask. Someone will answer. Good luck and happy losing!!

Welcome Dianna.. Anytime you feel like giving up...think of your mom... I went shopping yesterday for some much needed clothes.. I was so frustrated..and anytime I think about wanting to eat something I shouldn't I am going to remind myself about how horrible it is to buy clothes for myself...

        You can do this!

          Re: Hi there

thanks so much everybody for the kind words! I really appreciate it!

I got the book yesterday (I ordered it from amazon a little over a week ago) and I've begun reading it. I'm about 1/4 of the way through it now... it's an interesting read! I read it several years ago (the first time I attempted Atkins) and I seem to have forgotten a bunch of stuff!

does anyone have any simple (and quick!) recipes they could suggest for my induction phase? I'll be starting it soon and want to be fully prepared! (and not bored)

              Re: Hi there

Dianna, mostly I have been riding my bike, doing crunches, and leg lifts. My exercise that helps me the most is taking care of my Dad. I have to lift him a lot cause of Alzeimers, and move him around quite a bit. I really need to be doing more than I do, but right now I don't have a lot of time.

My motivation has been this board, for one. Everyone here is so inspiring, and supportive. I saw a picture of myself, and couldn't believe how heavy I had gotten. It was easy for me to look down and not see all the rolls. So I denied it and got bigger. Then on Christmas Eve, I fell down over at my Mother-in-Laws, and didn't have a change of clothes because no one had anything that would fit. That was so embarrassing to me. Anyway, on Jan. 1, I made up my mind to do Atkins. This time I am just taking my time with it, learning every thing that I need to know, so that when the time comes for me to be in Maintenance, I will stay on it for life. Sometimes I do have a hard time, wanting things that I can't have, but I just look at my pic on the fridge, and it helps.

Good luck, Dianna. You can do thiz!!!

Linda's website has a lot of recipes on there and I think she has some listed for induction

                  Hi Dianna,

Great to hear that you are taking positive steps towards health - I am sure that all the running around at the new job (and running around after an energetic six year old) will trim off a few of those pounds.

I have put a few recipes up on my little blog, I worked a few out and as far as I am aware, they are induction friendly. The link is in my signature. I am afraid they are in metric - but I am sure you can convert them easily enough.

Best of luck in your weight loss journey, I am sure you will see those pounds moving really quickly.

Keetje, I checked out your blog - it looks good! I can't wait to try some of those recipes!! Seriously, I've made out a shopping list and will be making some of those things soon! LOL

Sandy, thanks for the link to the low carb recipes, that site looked very familiar... I might have been there before!

Hi Y'all !! Just popping in to let you know that I haven't fallen off the wagon... I updated my stats and I'm happy to say that I am HALFWAY to my goal !!

I'm hoping to be kicking it up a notch (as Emeril would say! LOL) by taking bike rides in the afternoons now that it's cooling down a bit (it's Florida, doesn't get THAT cool, but cooler for sure). I recently got new tires on my bike to make that possible. I'm super excited!
