  • Scale question - Help!

I know, I know! Another scale question? When will we learn to toss these buggers overboard?

Here's my question. How can I weigh 3 pounds more the next day when I have been perfect on my plan? And how is it possible that I gain 1 pound in one hour when I haven't eaten or had anything to drink in that hour? Is it me or is my scale just mean? It is a 15 dollar wallmart scale. Should I invest in a more expensive model or just forget about weighing at all? I sware, I am doing so well staying on plan!!!!

Shell if you are weighing yourself ever hour that is not good.. Stick to the first thing in the morning once you wake up and go potty and stay off that scale..and do not weigh... You could have had something with more salt in it so you could be retaining water..

I did have some pepperoni yesterday. Maybe that's it. I really don't weigh every hour. I was just so shocked at the weight gain that I had to get back on to see if it was just an early morning thing. Guess not. I think Im going to hold back on the scale and weight just once a week. This is so dispointing.

Shell, can we please see a happy status in your profile? We promise to be good and eat our veggies if you put a happy smiley there.

        The scale.

Well, if you didn't eat anything or drink anything in that hour, your weight might change depending on... umm... how to say this... the "status" of the food you ate that day. *cough*

From day to day, your weight will vary mostly because of water retention, just as Sandy said. In any case, the thing is you can't gain 1 lbs of fat in one hour or 3 lbs of fat in one day. Well, unless you had something like a whole cow for dinner...

Here's something you might want to stick on that darn scale:

          Re: Scale question - Help!

My weight can literally fluctuate 5 lbs in one day, usually due to water retention.

If you must weigh yourself every day (I do) then do it at the same time each day for better accuracy. Just remember, if you're several pounds heavier from one day to the next, it could be bloating due to PMS or water retention - it doesn't necessarily mean you've actually gained weight, and you may see it come back off in a day or two.

            Re: Scale question - Help!

I weigh every day, too... and like Morrigan, I do it at the same time every day AND I ignore the fluctations. Then I record the weight on a graph. What I end up looking at is the pattern and progress of my weight loss, fluctations and all. And you know what? There's always a downward trend, even when it seems, day-to-day, that I'm not losing.

BUT... if you can't handle the feelings of stress caused by your totally normal fluctations, then get off the scale! Weigh once a week instead
