  • Should I go back on Atkins???

HI All ... I was on Atkins for about 8 months last year and lost around 5 stone, came off Atkins as 'd reached a plateau and couldn't budge any more weight. been off Atkins since January and tried low calorie dieting along with exercise. However, I'm on a complete plateau and not managed to lose a single pound really. Also, because I now incorporate carbs into my diet, like rye bread, brown rice etc as long as it is within my calorie count - I find I'm back to the old demented food syndrome, think about it all the time, want it all the time and am now finding that I@m bingeing at least once a week on chocolate and breads and chips .... when I was on Atkins I never craved these things and was never hungry because I could eat as much as I liked of the things I could have .. I'd love dearly to lose the last stone of my weight and am thinking of going back on the Atkins plan to see if that helps.

Do you think that's wise / good idea ?? any thoughts welcome

    Thanks, Tracey

Absolutely, positively go for it! What have you got to loose besides pounds?

If you go back on induction just long enough to get back in ketosis and calm the cravings and then move up the carb ladder, you will probably re-start weight loss. You do need to exercise and drink plenty of water.

You don't say if you stayed on induction the whole time, but I think that is probably what happened. I stayed on induction too long, and when I hit my first plateau, got mad and added a bunch of veggies, I lost 4 pounds in one week and the losses continued. By staying on induction levels, the body becomes adapted to it and it is the new "normal" diet to maintain a body weight that your body is just fine with. You have to change up diet and exercise frequently to keep your body guessing and not adapting.
People who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it.

I completely agree. That sounds like exactly what happened to me. If you stay on induction too long, the weight loss slows. You have to start adding in those veggies, etc. and the pounds start to come off again.
It is hard to do for me because at week two of induction, I am never hungry! It is hard to add in veggies and the other stuff on the rungs. The nuts rung seems easier, but then I start to lose control................!
        149.8/no weigh/ 119

        1st goal: 139 (earlier weight)
what the rungs mean to me:
        rung 1 - more veggies
rung 2 - dairy (some milk in coffee)
rung 3 - seeds, nuts (mostly sprinkled on salads)
        rung 4 - berries, melon
        rung 5 - wine -
        rung 6 - beans, hummus
        rung 7 - other fruits
rung 8 - carrots/ potatoes (nah, prolly not)
rung 9 - whole grains (fresh Dutch breads...)
        Major Goal - 128 lbs/ healthy range
        (on to pre-maintenance)
