  • Surviving Through Sickness

Just wondering how people survive through sickness on Atkins. After my daughter got out of the hospital I was so wiped out because my two littluns at home were also sick that I had no time to rest.

Now Im sick. What started out to be a simple kinda dry cough has worked its way down and now it sounds like a horse cough and takes alot out of me when I cough. Ive never had asthma so the doc was kinda confused but put me on the nebulizer and sent me home with antibiotics. My whole body aches and ive had fever on and off.

Now, I dont feel like even looking at eggs or veggies or anything for that matter. I had a little chicken broth otherwise I cant even move to get up and make something else but I havent a clue what to make cuz everything sounds nasty.

I feel really weak and my husband was trying to force on me a sandwich but I in no way want that . Number 1 its not atkins friendly and number 2 I really dont feel like eating let alone lift my head from bed.

Ive taken vitamin c other than that im not sure what i can eat or what i can do. My lips are so dry but am drinking lots of water.

I guess im just complaining and hoping to feel better soon.

    Soup.... That is my answer.

You need to eat even if it is a sandwich (the carbs are okay when your sick and not eating).

I would have him get you some chicken soup and a grilled cheese sandwich pronto.

Eat and rest. Just stay away from the empty carbs like cake and muffins.

    Drink lots of water.

    Hang in there.

Sounds like when I had the honest to goodness flu last year. Coughing so hard that every muscle in my body ached and too tired to get out of bed and too sick to care.

The problem is you need fluids...doctors would recommend fluids we can't have (i.e., juices and gatoraid). Be sure to drink lots of water, but drink that soup as people have advised...

          Hope you feel better!

Successfully did Atkins in 1998 using 1992 copy of the book...before it was "hip". Lost 60lbs, exercised daily, felt and looked great. And then I moved in with a junk-food loving man, my mom got sick and passed away, then I suffered a spinal cord injury, and junk-food dude left me...and now I weigh 292lbs. That's 22lbs MORE than I weighed the first time around. It's 10 years later...I know this will work for me again.

Yeah thats how i felt...its better now ... im glad i survived through it without getting off track eventhough i havent lost much in two weeks. But its partly because of that one cheat meal i had when my daughter was in the hospital but I cant wait to start losing again -- im starting to get discouraged.

              I second the soup.

Also, Powerade has a new Zero carb version. I'm not sure which artificial sweetener they use, but it might be good for providing electrolytes and keeing you hydrated.

Hoping you get well soon. Being that sick is miserable.

oh Sunny_One, are you serious??? I gotta find that for when my electrolytes take a plunge! Gatoraid used to be my saviour in those situations and I had one of those episodes 2 weekends ago and could do nothing about it! So annoyingly painful.

I'm on the hunt for sugar-free poweraid. I hope it's splenda sweetened!!!
