  • Grrrr! Apples in chicken salad. Damage control?

Ate lunch at church this afternoon. Was psyched that it was chicken salad, which I can eat. (Served on a giant bun, but of course I looked at that more as a "plate" than as actual food) Thought I was being all "good" eating it off the bun (NOT eating the bun) but then realized that there were apples in it. Argh!!! Probably only about 2 Tbspns worth of slivers, but still. ARGH!!!

I had been trying to stay away from eating out, but this was church and I just wanted to hang out w. friends and not make a big production over my food.

Am NOT going to let this derail me. I am planning on finishing out the 14 days of induction (am on day #3). Just cut my carbs for the rest of the day.

Is there anything else I can do?

Do not cut your carbs for the rest of the day, trying to compensate this mistake. Eat as you normally would. I doubt there was a lot of apple in that salad, so unless you have a very low CCLL/CCLM or an intolerance to apples, you'll be fine.

Eat your Induction meals, drink your water, do your exercise and finish your 14 days. When you determine your degree of metabolic resistance at the end of the 14 days, your results might be skewed towards a higher metabolic resistance, so just keep this in mind when you work on finding your CCLL.

Great advice Georgiana, people trip big time in moments like this. You did a smart thing coming here and sharing, and deciding to move forward, just keep to it. No restarting or compensating, just move forward.

I agree with everything said -- just move on. Do stay mentally aware of any cravings in the next day or two and have acceptable food ready, just in case. And of course, use this as a lesson to ask about ingredients before you eat food you didn't make yourself. If you can learn from this to avoid mistakes in the future - it's all good!

You will find the longer you are on Atkins that there are so many hidden things in our food that aren't good for us. When I first started I thought about the only thing I had to worry about was sodium...but that is the least of my worries. I'm on a constant vigil looking for hidden sugar, anything not on my food list.

It's took bad someone had to mess up a good chicken salad with apples...I'm sure when they made it they thought they were doing everyone a favor by putting a "healthy" good in.

Good luck -- keep going forward!

Fortunately you didn't do much damage. Apples are a great fruit for later on in the program, the have plenty of fiber. But since you are on induction they are a no-no. Don't sweat it and just be aware in the future as everyone else has said.
