  • Help Needed

Well, I am posting this because I know the accountablility is what I need and a little advice also. I was all gungho and started Atkins again last wednesday.. then over weekend had a few beers and last night a beer and ..omg get this.. sandwich and a few chips. So I am starting over again today....

My troubles come not from when I am home cooking or when I am out I can do that. My trouble comes in when I am over to my parents or like last night was doing some yardwork and my Dad was helping me and mom made supper.. egg salad sandwiches and chips. I have not told them that I am on low carb eating. I know that is something that I am not sure they will understand. My dad can eat anything and stays thin, my mom is very overweight and has basically given up on losing or dieting of any kind.

I am wondering if anyone else has this or how to "come out" and tell them. They dont' think I need to lose, but I would feel so much better with just 20 - 25 pounds off, 30 ideal. Any help in how to handle this. I want to lose finally and this WOE I know works for me and I feel good on it. My arthritis doesn't hurt as much and I don't always feel bloated and hungry. (I did atkins for 3 years, not strict, from about 2003-2006 with some success).

This weekend we are going camping with my parents, sisters and families. I know I can pack things that I can eat and stay on plan. I will also try to stay away from the beer or anything that they might have in the evening. It is so hard to break old habits like that. I need to be strong I know.

Anyway to make the small plea on any advice how to "come out" and tell family or friends.

The bottom line is that you really do need to tell them otherwise you will never be able to do the diet due to breaking it every time. Its not their fault because they don't know your on the diet its going to be even worser for you on the camping trip because the food they take will be carbs and you will be stuck for words if they nag you to have some.I think you should sit them down with a cup of tea and their favourite biscuits and tell them your doing the diet and also explain why so they know and ask them to support you and that it will mean alot to you hopefully they will ease up to the idea and will support you.Good luck.

If you just tell them you are doing this for awhile, this is the way you are eating, please respect it--and mean it-- then that"s probably all you have to do. Say it with confidence and authority and then be sure not to cave the first time someone cracks open that beer. Not telling them is a sure way to fail! They cannot support you if they don't know how.

If you think they are going to butt heads with you because it is the dreaded ATKINS DIET, then tell them you are choosing low sugar. low glycemic foods because the high sugar/starch foods make you feel tired and sluggish and leave it at that.

Thanks for the advice, too funny you said that Jill, I started by telling my sisters and in the email I said I wanted to get more veggies for camping as too many carbs/sugars I have noticed make me sluggish and sleepy.

I know I have to be direct and let them know this is what I am doing. I am sure if I am they will support me. Just hard taking that first step. They have seen me start so many diets. But I have to let them know that Atkins seems to be the way that works for me the best and I feel the best on.

Thanks for the replies. It will be harder for me to stay no to the beer than anything else but I can do it!!! If anything I can use my ulcer as an excuse.

Here is to 14 day clean induction!
