Hello I am a dude and I have a carb problem, lol.

My partialy done success story. I was 262 June of 08. I was wearing x-large shirts and size 40 pants. Now as of today I am down to 211.8 wearing large shirts and size 36 pants. Holy crap I just realized that that is 50 lbs. My wedding is in 17 days so I wanted to be looking good for that. My orginal goal was to be to 200 by then, but my body decideds how much weight it wants to lose.

I have fallen off of the wagon numerous times this year, but Monday morning I always get back on. It has helped me to set mini goals of 5 lbs lost (in my signature). Also posting in the daily roll call thread really help to hold oneself accountable
        GOAL #1-220 lbs Completed 03/27/10
        GOAL #2-215 lbs
        GOAL #3-210 lbs
        GOAL #4-205 lbs

                Re: Where are the DUDES??????????????

I read this post and I couldn't help but hearing Aerosmith's "Dude looks like a lady. ."

Not that I look like a lady, I don't, but it did come to mind.

Pics? I have a teen daughter that loves electronics . . .and with her love affair with electronics comes a shorter life span for all things digital. . . camera, cell phones. . . . just yesterday she accidentally dropped her cell phone in the toilet. Couldn't stop texting for a minute!

Similar fate befell our digital camera. . .she "borrowed" it for a slumber party and it came back broke. "Someone" knocked it out of her hands and it shattered on the floor.

                Kids.

Okay, I started off at 435 about six weeks ago, and I'm flirting with getting under the big Four O O. It should hit in the next week. Extended induction (although I have treated myself to the homemade chocolate ice cream posted on this forum, albeit without the freezer bags, I just whipped it and put it in the freezer, pulled it out a bit early, stirred it some, and . ..bingo!)

Anyway, I'm fifty two now and my goal is to be a sleek and trim 195 (six footer) by fifty five. That gives me two and a half years. 435 to 195. It's doable.

                  Re: Where are the DUDES??????????????

Hey Edwin, I'm another dude here.

I started Atkins at the end of 2006 as part of a family "biggest loser" competition. My wife and I won the competition and I found the Atkins worked so well for me I didn't stop.

I started at 334 pounds wearing size 44/46 pants and 3/4xl shirts. Got down to 216 pounds wearing 34/36 pants and XL shirts. Unfortuantely at the end of 08 I got a nail through my knee and let that be an excuse for not exercising for far too long. That, (combined with overeating nuts and sugar-free icecream) brought me up to 256 pounds.

A couple months ago I realized that my XL shirts were getting tight. I wasn't about to let myself have to go back to buying XXL shirts so I finally cracked down on myself and started exercising and cut out the nuts and sugar free cr*p.

Now I'm back on track, have lost 14 pounds and I'm feeling great.

                    Re: Where are the DUDES??????????????

Oh, great stories dudes and dudets, very inspirational. I want to go through Atkins for a couple of weeks, lose a couple of pounds (hopefully more than just a couple), let my clothes feel a little looser and then I am going to start working out.

I am so pumped now and your stories make me even more excited and hopeful that I can do this again.

Here's my deal guys and girls, I actually started Atkins about 7 months ago. I was losing weight (even though it was at a very low speed). Then I met this girl (she is my girlfriend now) and she was trying to please me I guess so she said great I will do Atkins with you. Then she started complaining and nagging everyday and eventually stopped and consequently messed me up. So since then we basically eat everything under the sun and have both gotten fatter and fatter.

I have realized that she is NOT READY to be disciplined and follow a strict diet and I can't get any fatter. So I have decided to get hardcore by myself and kind of letting her do whatever she wants to do. My worries are that she is going to drag me down or keep talking about food around me and make me (well not make me but tempt me) into making mistakes and eating crap.

So, ladies and gentlemen, how do I stay focused even though she is not. Keep in mind that I love this woman so getting rid of her is not an option.

                    Thanks.

                        Re: Where are the DUDES??????????????

Edwin, I am married to a skinny-minny. Seriously, if he and I got on a teeter-totter, I could have sent him to the moon! And he eats every kind of junk imaginable. Just this morning, he was complaining that he can't keep his size 30 Levi's up; he can take them on and off without unbuttoning them.

Bottom line - there can be lots of common ground between the two of you on meals... you just need to pick the appropriate side dishes for yourself, and let her dine on the carbage. Yes, it can be difficult at first... but once you have a clean 2 week Induction behind you (your tastes really will change) and have lost some size, it gets MUCH easier to avoid the junk.

And my bet is, when she sees how FINE you are becoming while eating yummy foods, she will hop on board again. Or maybe not. But if she doesn't, it will be her loss (or rather, gain).

                        You can do it!

                          Re: Where are the DUDES??????????????

                          Great response Mitzi.

My wife went off plan about 6 months ago. By that time I was well set in my ways and her having whatever she wants didn't really bother me at all. Hopefully the same wil be true for you, though I realize it will be harder as you are just re-starting.

If it's just a matter of her eating things around you not her actively trying to subvert your eating plan then really the only thing you can do is just be confident that you are eating a healthy diet that is going to help you reach your goals and feel good about yourself.

The real problem from my point of view is if she actually tries to sabotage you. Whether its by excessivley enjoying her icecream in front of you "Mmm ohh, that is soo good, wow too bad you can't have any!" or by the classic "C'mon one bite won't hurt", "You are doing so well, you deserve one slice of pizza", "What kind of diet doesn't let you have cake once in a while". My wife went through a brief phase of doing this type of thing. I let it slide for a while but eventually sat her down and let her know that I believe Atkins works and is healthy and I plan on eating this way for the rest of my life. That her attempts to subvert those plans are not cute, are not a loving thing to do and that frankly, if she did succeed I would only resent her for derailing me. Finally I told her that I know she loves me and that the best way to show that love right now is for her to support me in my weight loss goals, not be an obstacle to them.

Of course this was not in those exact terms, but the point is she undestood how harmful I felt she was being to me, that I was serious about this, how important it was too me, and how much having her support meant to me. She stopped trying to get me to eat things I shouldn't and has really been enthusiatic about my weight loss.

I absolutely love reading about how people have made this not just a diet, but a way of life. That's where I am now, although just at the beginning of the path. I need to learn good habits to get me thru the second 50 years of my life ().

and to the dude getting married in two weeks: CONGRATULATIONS!!
