  • 3rd time a charm?

    Hi everyone,

This is my third try at this. The first time was after my first baby I had dropped 69 lbs in 4 months. Then I had my son and gained it all, my eating was out of control. I tried it again last year, but lacked the will power. Now i've climbed over the 300 mark and can't believe the scale! Everything on my body hurts, back, knees, ankles..etc..list goes on. This is my last attempt before I consider sewing up my stomach.

Today is my first day of induction. I am highly motivated but extremely hungry tonight, I cannot stop thinking of food(esp sweets) I felt so tired all day, like a hangover.

Now my Tummy growling. Help!.!! Please I cannot give in to this hunger.

    Re: 3rd time a charm?

    Welcome back –

Because your lifestyle and other things are different, you may not loose as quickly or as much as before during induction, so don’t compare what happened “the last time”. Follow the plan the way it is written – hopefully you have a copy of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR). Start exercising right away, drink plenty of pure water (64 ounces minimum daily – nothing added) and you’ll be on your way to loosing before you know it – don’t forget to get all your vegetables in daily!.

If you are hungry eat a protein/fat snack -- you shouldn't be hungry during induction! Take a piece of chicken, ham, hamburger, whatever you have and dip it in mayo or cream cheese -- something like that. It will help you feel full longer and you won't be thinking about the sweets as much. If you can get through the first few days and break that sweet tooth you'll be so much better off!! Try going opposite when you want sweets -- pickles, pork rinds something like that - many people say that works for them.

At the top of the induction page you’ll find a condensed version of the book - http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/77558-atkins-diet-induction-faqs.html. Make a copy of this list http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html - take it with you when you go to the store. If a food isn’t listed on the acceptable food list don’t eat it. Learn to read the label on all foods you buy - don’t just look at the “carb” number look at the ingredients list of everything and check the ingredients against your list. Just because it says "low carb" doesn't mean you can eat it. Also check for hidden sugars (learn the names used in place of the word “sugar”).

Check the STAC Second Time Around Club - Atkins Diet for additional support. Check the stickies at the top of the induction forum to refresh your memory on the plan. http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/5781-before-you-begin-atkins-nutritional-approach.html. Also look at the challenge section to see if there is anything you might be interested in.

The recipe sites are a helpful meal planning tool – just make sure you use Induction Recipes to begin with.

        Re: 3rd time a charm?

Ali, you can totally do it! We both started on the same day and I am totally feeling you on the sugar cravings! In my office the kitchen is filled with cake, cookies, popcorn, and fruit and its killing me.

Yesterday I bought a really nice all natural salami and some cheese sticks for my emergencies and you better believe I'm munching on some salami and have my 32 ounce jug o' water sitting with me at my desk!

By the way, 3rd time wasn't a charm for me I'm on my 8th? I believe? But its all good...I'm making it stick this time. We're here for you hun! I'm feeling your pain!

hi Ali! I hope you got thru last night with the sage advice of the ladies above....you might also want to check out a post on the main forum specifically about sugar cravings, might get an idea or two from there in case there is a "next time."

Boiled eggs are a lifesaver for me when I have cravings in the beginning.

              Ali,
I was excited to see your post. I am on my third time too. I am starting tomorrow morning. I am actually looking forward to getting going. My saving grace in the induction phase has always been hard salami, boiled eggs and lots of wings. I keep wings in my fridge cooked and ready to eat. It seems like in the first two weeks I eat more than I am used to eating but I get through and by the end of the second week my appetite is under control. Looking forward to walking this walk with you, Stay strong we can do it!!!!!

3drcsmith, I feel you on the wings. Right now I have wings in my fridge that I cooked last night, induction-friendly meatballs, cheese sticks, and I'll be boiling up some eggs for the week tonight.

Missed a few things on my grocery list this week so its back to the Halls of Temptation for me today.
