  • Going on a Cruise, HELP.

My husband and I are going on a cruise for our one year anniversay. Our wedding was on 11/08/08. I'm scared to death!!!! Everyone looks at cruises as an excuse to eat til they drop and I don't want undo all that I've done so far. It's been 3 weeks and I've only lost nine pounds and 4 of that was due to an egg meat fast. I love sweets they are my down fall. Im the type to choose dessert over a fila! Has anyone gone on cruise and stuck to their diet? How did you do it?

Have you spoken to the cruise company to see if they have any suggestions? They could tell you how the meals are organized at least, and then you could plan.

If dessert is an issue, fill up on main course and then take a break for 10 mins (go to the bathroom if necessary) and you will realize you are not hungry for more. You could ask your husband to go ahead and eat dessert without you while you are gone.

Or if there is a buffet, take more of the main dish to eat while the people around you eat dessert. I often do that and it is very successful, stops me feeling deprived and stops others trying to persuade me to 'just have a little taste' of the dessert because they feel bad about eating it themselves.

I did it. Yeah there was a lot of stuff to tempt me, but there was also a lot of legal food. Look, you need to decide what is more important. Does not eating dessert mean your anniversary cruise is less meaningful? No. Is being thin more important to you than having a dessert "because it is a special week"? I hope so. There will always be something in your life that is a reason not to stay on board. Only you can decide if Atkins is important enough. But don't think I am inflexible, I have done two holidays and for one mydecision was to be good; the other I decided was worth going off plan for two weeks. When I went on the cruise there was nothing there that was worth breaking my dedication to the WOE. Last year when I went to Italy for my 25th I felt differently. I went off plan and I am not sorry for the weeks in Italy. The food was heavenly and I didn't gain a pound. The problem was that when I came back I had a very difficult time getting back on plan and for that, I am sorry.

Walking around the deck is a wonderful way to exercise and enjoy the cruise. If you need to, take a small bite to eat and if everyone else is still stuffing, just go for a walk!! Ok, maybe mine sounds too simple... but China is right, just make up your mind that it's more important to NOT lose ground, and make your decisions based on that.

Thanks guys. It IS more important to me to be skinnyand that's what I want more than a lousy bite of sweets that make me feel like crap.

Good girl! Print this out and take it with you and read it every time the buffet calls your name.
