  • More like 100th time around for me....

    Hey everyone,

I have revamped my lifestyle once again to be low carb. I started induction today. I hope I can truly be successful this time. Its no longer about getting thin and looking good, its now about my health. I was diagnosed with high blood sugar/pre-diabetes. UGH! What a wake up call.
Not only am I a true carb addict, I drink WAAAAY too much alcohol. That has stopped and must stop for good before I am even more miserable with myself AND facing a diagnoses of diabetes.
So, I think this time I will be successful, because my reasoning has changed and I am scared for my life, I want to be healthy this time, I think the change in what drives me will be what makes the difference.

    Thanks for listening,
    Kim

When many of us think about how many times we've tried dieting, it's probably a zillion times also! The important thing is to never quit. After my zillion other diets, I have been trying low carb for a couple years now with various LC plans. Learned a lot in that time and made a lot of mistakes along the way.

Re: carb addictions and drinking too much...been there, done that too. Looking back, when I got my drinking under control, I upped my carbs. Net result: a sober fatter me.

What may be helpful to you during Induction (and as you start up the OWL rungs) is to really really restrict your sweet things meaning little or no SF sweeteners, diet sodas, SF syrups, etc. Difficult at first but it will make a huge difference.

Wishing you lots of success and I look forward to reading more posts from you.

Re: More like 100th time around for me....

Thank you everyone for the encouragement. I sometimes feel ashamed that I have not been able to succeed at losing this weight, especially while I watch my friends go o WW and lose it all first go, and keep it off. Yet, for me, I have been trying to lose the same 30lbs for quite a few years. Makes me feel LAME! Now I have to lose 47 lbs, UGH!
On the other hand, I feel good about the fact that I have not given up, I may be on a new "diet" every week, LOL but at least I am trying. I have always know that Atkins is the best way to be healthy AND lose the weight. I was successful the first time I did it, but of course...along came thanksgiving and my arrogance Oh well. Its just about a new year and having the right attitude is everything right?

MizSki - Thanks for the advice on the sweetners. Your right too. I have been addicted to splenda since the craze of it and reading DANDR for the first time, but I have read numerous articles, etc that say it can actually increase your sugar cravings, and it contains trace amounts of arsenic. YIKES! I have since switched to stevia, which has no carbs, no GI, and is truly pure from nature. because I need so little I only use a tiny in my morning coffee. Its a start at phasing out sweetners.

Thanks again everyone......MUCH appreciated, thanks for letting me rant a little

Never give up girl!! You can totally do it!!
It takes a lot of planning and focusing and staying strong in the begenning, but it gets easier.
Atkins is great because it works SO well, you don't have to do much but follow the book!
Listen to your body and you'll find what foods work for you and which ones don't..

                    It's totally doable.

And I agree- never give up! As long as you keep workin' on doing something about, you'll get there.
