  • 5'6" 180lbs

I've been between 190 and 170lbs since I joined this forum at 17. I'm now 20 and have gotten back on the atkins horse. I'm concerned about loose skin after a thirty pound loss. I would like feedback from someone my height that has or had a similar wight loss goal. That having been said, any feedback is appreciated
    Happy carbwatching

    Hiya,
Im not your height (only 5,3) but have lost a fair bit more weight & know exactly what your worried about. Im in UK & found a fantastic product called bio-oil.....its officially ment to reduce scars/stretchmarks & is very popular (doctors recommend it here).....Ive used it all through weight loss & it seems to do the job.....saying that, it could be the massage that does the trick :0)
I wouldnt be without it though

Well, I lost more than that and don't have any loose skin.

Skin is pretty elastic ... and since you're young, you might not run into a problem at all.

          Re: 5'6" 180lbs

When I started, I was 180+ lbs at 5'5". My lowest weight was 140 lbs. This 40 lb weight loss occurred over ~ 7 months at age 27. I've NEVER had any loose skin. This may be because I have always exercised and weight lifted.

30 lbs should not leave any loose skin. add to that your skin is amazing at 20 yrs old.
If your really concerned add weight training to your regimen. I heard it helps minimize loose skin after a lot of weight is lost, (but thats for people with 100 or more lbs to lose).
Another benefit, weight training will melt inches, (though it may show a stall in the scale because your building lean muscle mass).

Well everyone is different, but your age is in your favor. When I was in my early 40's (and much thinner) I lost 30# and got down to 135#, and I was 5'4", and I had no loose skin.

But also like others have said do your exercise, and mix cardio, weights, also yoga and pilates is good too along with the cardio and weights.

My sincerest thanks to each of you. These are all such supportive responses! I feel a bit guilty for not posting back sooner. I've taken your advice and have been getting cardio and strength training each day. As for a stall in weight loss due to gaining muscle, I measure my success and sensitivity with ketone sticks. Thanks to them I now know of three different foods that will prevent ketosis in my case. Eveyone's different and they give myself and my bf something tangible to boost moral. )
