I read DANDAR in '02 and followed it closely. Lost 50lbs and kept it off for almost three years by saying on the a carb path. Then a motorcycle accident landed me in the hospital with a lacerated liver & kidney and I totally fell of the program and over the following years I gained 80 lbs. There were a lot of other factors, but those are just excuses.
This time last year I started doing Atkins again, but I wasn't very strict. I needed to lose weight because I had to have knee surgery to clean things up last June. I managed to drop 25 lbs before the surgery, which was waayyy short of my goal, but it was better then nothing.
When awoke from surgery, things were worse than expected. Long story short is that I had been walking around on a fractured femur for a couple of years (I knew it hurt). Too add insult to my injury, I developed a blood clot in my leg. Two months on crutches, tons of meds and out of work for three months. Depression set in and the pounds came flying back on.
I let myself enjoy the holidays and on Jan 2, 2010 I came back to Dr Atkins program totally committed. No Caffeine. No alcohol. Just fats, proteins, lots of water and a few carbs in the form of green veggies. My goal is ten pounds a month (average) 'til June. Then I'll reassess and see how it goes from there.
Here I go again ~ wish me success!
