  • Caffeine question....

    Do any of you guys ever throw in a little caffeine??? The reason I'm asking is because I have to pull an all-nighter for work tomorrow night and a thought a cup (or two) of coffee might help me through. I have been completely off of caffeine since I re-started on 1/5/10.

    Just wondering if a little caffeine once in a blue moon would hurt?

    I'd say don't do it... Remember, you (we) have a metobolic imbalance and caffiene only exacerbates that imbalance. One of the ideas behind Atkins' is to limit insulin production. Drinking caffiene may cause your body to increase your insulin production, thereby by making you hungrier and the vicious cycle continues all over again. Compound that with be tired, could cause you problems. I'd say that if you're gonna have to pull alnighters, you better learn to live with 'em.

    If you do, be careful, that first step's a doozie.

    My story ~ I'm a profesional firefighter & a paramedic for more than 20 years. I work 24 hour shifts. Early in my career I would just get hammered on the last half of my shift. I used to CRAVE coffee & donuts at 5a.m., just to get me home after work safely (that's what I told myself). Then I'd crash hard. Well, look what all of those years have done to me.

    Now, I've promoted and have senority, so I've had a chance to slowed down a bit. I still get worked over pretty good now & again, but now I just have to tuff it out. Because one little slip (How do you think I've ended up back here in the second time around club?) can totally take you off track.

      Yeah, I think I would try not to do it. It's not a regular thing, just sometimes when it snows, I have to run snow removal contract crews to clear the streets.

          Yeah, I see what you mean. Thanks for the words of wisdom. I am not one who can cheat and then get right back on. I'm fine as long as I have a strict set of guidelines to follow.

          Good luck on your quest! I too would like to join the century club.
