  • Getting started (again) ...

i used the Atkins diet a few years ago ... fairly successful with the diet. I am a 67 year old male - after losing weight i then experienced health issues and have only recently tried to begin anew with the diet. Is it more difficult to enter ketosis the second or 3rd time around ... i feel that i have been fairly carb free (less than 20 per day) but have not lost weight as before - certainly have not lost weight as rapidly ... I take effexor, asprin and a blood pressure med ... wonder if i am doing something to prevent or inhibit experiencing ketosis ... Any thoughts or suggestions ... Thanks

    Welcome to ADBB!

    It shouldn't be.

    >>i feel that i have been fairly carb free (less than 20 per day)>>

How much less? Being as close to 20 net, with most of your net carbs coming from Induction vegetables is nutritionally sound.

Remember, your experience "this time" won't be the same as "last time" ... you're older, you have a different body.

If you want to post a typical days menu, we can take a look.

Are you drinking a MINIMUM of 64 ounces of water per day?

I had a hard time "regrouping" when I restarted Atkins the first time. I think that part of the success of the first time for me - was that I wasn't expecting it to work as well as it did. So the weightloss was kind of an unexpected surprise? The second time, I knew that it would work - so I wanted it to work desperately - and when it wasn't as "magical" as it was the first time... well, it's easy to get frustrated!

So here I am - on my 2nd Second time around. Only this time - I'm a wee bit more motivated and dedicated to the process.

Stick with what you know - and the weight will come off!
