  • Support and advice badly needed

    Hi guys,

I'm not from the states and am here up till summer. While I'm here, I've been into eating a no carb diet. I've not had any forms of flour/sugary carbs (candies chocolates, chips whatever) even though I love dark chocolates. It's been 3 months now and I have problems shedding of the weight I wish to lose (15 pounds). I'm not overweight or anything. But I just wish to be more toned and to lose some of the flabs I have for YEARS that is like a plague in my life. I exercise intensely - weights, squats, etc 3 times a week and sometimes, as like last week, I swim intensely twice a week in addition to the 3 gym days. On Sunday, I also went for a run. So something like that has been my work out. I'm quite an active person and I do drink a lot of water as required, eat my veg.

But atkins is not working for me. Recently, I've been addicted to almonds, macademia nuts and etc. I have a truckload of them and I think it has been the cause of my stall. I snack on them at night. believe it or not, i wake up at night to eat! I keep having night time hunger pangs! It's just a really BAD HABIT. I think this is a second reason for my stall too. So not only am I striving to remove the trigger foods - nuts from my diet but also trying not to wake up to eat... it's really hard. But I don't know, I feel like there might be a third stall reason... which is that ever since I'm here I've not been having my menstruation for like 2 months. Which means I've skipped like 2 or possibly 3 cycles... and I'm feeling bloated. Or I don't know, maybe it's fats accumulating on my tummy. i feel the flabs EVEN THOUGH I'm eating my fats and proteins!!! Also, in mornings I do something like 200 situps.

So I don't know what is wrong. I just need some help, some support here... I'm feel like just giving up and thinking all these is a fad. But after reading scientific studies after scientific studies, books after books, this IS THE RIGHT THING. Something is just not right.

I'm going to cut my late night eating. This is my aim for my 2 weeks of induction...YET AGAIN!!! I'll see if it'll break my stall.

Also I have a question, I like to top my foods with lots of mayonnaise. Like, I love tuna with lots of mayo and in the mornings, I eat 2 hardboiled eggs melted with cheese and butter with mayo. Is this too much fat? Does it in the end end up with excess energy -> accumulation -> which explains my not losing weight? Is it because I eat TOO MUCH?!

But I do feel hungry like now.... Although it's bedtime. Sigh. What do I do?!??? and there's a constant worry about my menstruation... it might be because of stress and all but could it be inteferring?

    Hi,

Can you post a few days menu and the net carbs. I didn't see you mention eating any vegetables. Do you eat veggies?

Are you using the Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution 2002 Book as your info source?

How many ounces of plain water are you drinking every day?

If you post your menu, some of the pros can look it over to see how your eating sizes up! By the way, Atkins is not a no carb way of eating.

What do you use to track your food intake? Have you tried using FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal

And also- nuts have Carbs in them and eating a truckload of them is definitely a problem.

    One more thing:

*It helps everyone answer your questions better if you put your info in your signature so it can be seen every time you post.
*Click the "profile" button at the top of the forum and then set up your signature with the following: start weight/current weight/goal weight also----height, start date, is helpful as well as age and sex.
*None of this is required, just helps us help you.)

After you give us a little info to help us-----we will try to help solve your problem.

    Where are you visiting from?

***EDIT-Sorry, I missed where you said "eat my veg", it was after 2 am here and it just didn't stand out after reading all of your other details.

Hey there, thanks for replying so soon I'm not good with the "ounces"... scale. But I drink something like 8 glasses of water and I do take my veggies sufficiently. My concern is actually if it's late night eating? Or eating too much? I'll try to show you what I have:

      Mornings:
      1. 2-3 hard boiled eggs
      2. melted with cheddar cheese (2-3 slices)
      3. 2-3 table spoons of butter
      4. 2-3 table spoons of mayonnaise
      5. Some spinach

      Afternoons
      1. 2-4 ounces of tuna
      2. with black pepper and 2-3 tablespoons of mayonnaise
      3. some spinach

      Evening:
Chicken/steak/protein-food/ with mayo LOL i love mayo.
      some spinach

      Snacks in between meals:
      1. cheddar cheese
      2. those triggerfood nuts (which i've cut out and will not add them back anytime soon)
      3. hardboiled eggs

I also have a problems with late night eating!!

For the past few days/1 week I've been snacking on almonds at night. I think this is the downfall...

If I eat at night, it will delay/stall/promote fat accumulation right?
      current weight: 130lbs - 5"3
goal weight: 115lbs - hopefully by summer!
      some mini goals:
      1) 120lbs
      2) 118lbs
      3) 116lbs
      4) 115lbs
      5) 112lbs?

If you are eating vegetables, then you are not eating a no carb diet. Vegetables have carbs. Are you counting them?

But atkins is not working for me. Recently, I've been addicted to almonds, macademia nuts and etc. I have a truckload of them
Then how can you say Atkins isn't working for you, when it's you who is not doing Atkins right?

It's good that you gave up nuts for now.

I feel like there might be a third stall reason... which is that ever since I'm here I've not been having my menstruation for like 2 months. Which means I've skipped like 2 or possibly 3 cycles
Skipped periods can be due to an increase in exercise or to undernourishment, among other things. If you skipped 2-3 periods, then you should see a doctor.

Eating only spinach will not give you proper nutrition. You should eat a variety of vegetables.

And how much is "some spinach"? How many of your net carbs are coming from vegetables? How many net carbs are you eating per day?

        and I'm feeling bloated.
How much fiber are you getting?

        Are you constipated?

I don't know, maybe it's fats accumulating on my tummy.
        That's not how it works.

Is this too much fat? Does it in the end end up with excess energy -> accumulation -> which explains my not losing weight? Is it because I eat TOO MUCH?!
How much are you eating, in calories?

        2. melted with cheddar cheese (2-3 slices)

        1. cheddar cheese
How much cheese are you eating per day, in ounces?

If I eat at night, it will delay/stall/promote fat accumulation right?
No, as long as you eat because you are hungry and eat only to satisfy your hunger.

Why have you been doing Induction for 3 months?

          Are you losing inches?

Did you have your body fat measured?

Re: Support and advice badly needed

I am not losing inches! Instead I think I'm gaining a bit of weight. Well.. I didn't get much measurements done, I just do most things in an approximate way and make sure I don't go too high in net carbs. I'm keeping to 3-4 ounces of cheese (max 5) on now though. And I'm 5"3 127. I'm just aiming first for a 120...

Before I started, I was 120-123 pounds. I understand though it might be because I've gained muscle mass because of the kinds of exercise I'm doing now. I feel my muscles up too but I just dont feel the fat "melting away" like everyone says.

Also... i havent been doing induction for 3 months. It's just that it's not working for me and I've always been correcting it, trying to start "all over again" telling myself this time it'll work! but then, week after week, it doesn't work. Here and there I know I'm improving, cutting out nuts, keeping cheeses down, eating meat, veg, drinking required amounts of water etc.

Re: Support and advice badly needed

the mayo may be the culprit. Most mayo has at least a little sugar added. look on the label in the ingredients.

read this it helps explain http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...l-reading.html

if you eat some thing high in fat just before you go to bed it may keep you from waking up hungry. fat takes longer to digest.

on fit day you can list all your exercise and your foods and compare the calories you burn to what you eat.

Are you giving your muscles at least 2 days to rest in between strength training? Its best if you let them rest and repair, when they repair is when you see an increase in muscle size.

If you have the time and want to you can make your own mayo and not add any sugar to be able to eat as much as you want. Mayonnaise Recipe : Alton Brown : Food Network
just leave out the sugar. I dont even add splenda.
