I have a question. Is anyone currently on Zoloft while doing Atkins? I know the book says you can't be on any kind of anti depressant but someone on this medicine cannot just go off it to do Atkins>

i am on effexor... i am trying to stop taking it because im sick of being physically dependent... i am on day 6 of induction and have already lost 3-4 pounds. (water weight went off, came back, so im assuming what the scale says is what i lost) anyway i havent experienced any problems being on an antidepressant..... in the book he says antidepressants can be a problem with being resistent to weightloss but im going to say its probably a small amount of people... just like birth control but i am on that too and im not having any problems.
in the summer i did this for about a month and had no problems either. talk to your doctor or maybe an expert can help but thats just from my experience.

Thank you for your answer. I've lost 9 lbs but I didn't know if it would "stop" after that. I'll continue what I'm doing then!Jody

I think that if you have lost weight so far that it is not going to be a problem for you. I have taken several different kinds in my quest to find something that works well for me. I have found some that make me gain weight an others that do not affect my weight at all. They all seem to affect everyone in a different way. No one wants to be depressed and I think it is great that there are so many choices out there for us that need them. I think that you are doing a great job with atkins and your meds. :rightonHappyme HW193 SW178 CW136

I am on Zoloft and I'm bipolar, so I'm on some other meds. I don't think the book says you can't be on meds and be on this diet. At least if it did I missed that part. Anyway I'm doing fine on the program with the meds. I don't have a choice about being on meds. It's not a situation that's going to go away, although sometimes I get delusional and think it is. Typical bipolar thinking. Makes my family crazy. I'm learning not to do that, but it's hard because bipolar has such a stigma attached to it.
Anyway, don't go off your meds without your doctor's knowledge.

Hi Everybody
Robert J , here. I am on Zoloft and a host of other meds. I started this woe back in August of 2003 at 317 pounds with the intent of getting to 180 pounds at some point when it was right. So far I am down to 270 at last weigh and I have been very strict with myself on carbs and reading labels. I just am having an awful time giving up my caffine though. I love coffee and going to Starbucks. Going off my meds is not an option but with what I have done so far , I feel confident that I might one day be able to lessen the dose due to reduced body weight. Big Ups to anyone who is doing Atkins and cant come off their anti depressants. I am slowly succeeding but its tough. Finding this forum has been a big help. I look forward to exploring the topics and keeping motivated.

Hello There!
I've been on Lustral (UK Zoloft) since Jan 2003 and talked with my GP about coming off the drug - I'm not happy being chemically dependant onit anymore - so He's got me to half the dosage until I finish my current pack then halved again, then off - should take me 1.5 months to complete then I'll be off them completely.
I started Atkins on the 15thof Jan this year and have still managed to lose weight 13 pounds!!!
I would speak with your doctor about this. It's always good to get some medical advice.
Happy Losing!
