  • Is the Atkins way of eating a miracle cure?

    Hi everyone!

I'm new here but I've been watching for over a month now. I started Atkins on February 15. My height is 5' 8" and my weight was 365. At that time I was suffering from body swelling, daily headaches, joint pain, severe fatigue (despite being put on a CPAP machine for sleep apnea), difficulty bending, difficulty breathing, difficulty getting in and out of cars, and a host of other problems.

The first three days were rough. I've always had trouble with grease and fat, so the start of induction made me sick to my stomach. I just couldn't bring myself to eat all that butter and mayonnaise. During this time I mentioned to my wife that my gut felt like someone had scooped my insides out. I didn't know what was going on but I knew something was happening.

On day four I had so much energy I had to go for a walk at lunch break just to burn some off. Since then my energy level has remained fairly high. Every day for the first two weeks I got something back that I'd never realized I'd lost. First, I found I could bend and nearly reach the ground. Then I started fitting into our car. Shortly after, about 95% of my body pains disappeared. So did the headaches (only one or two in two months)! Plus I now sleep the deepest sleeps I've slept since I was a child and I am a new man on six hours a night!

At five weeks I visited the doctor and had my blood work done. He checked it against the blood work I had done a year ago and my cholesterol was down from 208 to 196. My weight was down to 343! After having told him about all the great things that were happening he told me to continue doing what I was doing!

For the past week I've been working on getting my old bicycle back into shape. I've been riding it for a couple of days and my body just keeps screaming for more! Last year I could barely ride it, had trouble bending over to reach the handlebars and could barely breathe. None of those problems today!

I don't know what my weight is today because none of the scales in my house goes over 300. However, I believe I'm somewhere around 325. People are making comments about my weight loss and how I'm looking, especially my wife. How great this feels!

To answer my own question, yes, Atkins is truly a miracle cure! Dr. Atkins should be sainted! He saved my life!

Sorry about the long post. I just needed to share my success with someone.

I enjoyed reading your long post! I am glad to hear this is working out so great for you. :clapping Way to go!!!!! I also have noticed increased energy, but only when I remember to eat breakfast and lunch. The last 2 days I have not and I get so weak. My old habit was skipping both due to work, school and family obligations, then just raiding the fridge when I got home at 6pm and eat what ever I could find until I was full. Then eating agin when I made dinner for my husband, which is around 9:30pm when he comes in. But I think it is pretty good. I have been on for 2 weeks now, and I am still craving sweets though. My first week, I gave in twice. And I have only lost 8 pounds due to that! I have been good all this week, so we will see how I did later!
      Again, Congrats!!!!!!
