          What kind of mayonaise?

I also wanted to know if helmans mayonaise would be accceptable, as I belive it does have sugar in it .
If not what other brands would be acceptable?

            Tips...

Here are some tips of mine:

            - Never eat after 8:30
            - Initially avoid anything with sugar alcohols, phase in when your body can hanle it
            - Make splenda your sweetener of choice, and stick to products sweetened with it (like Diet Rite soda...)
            - Resist the temptation to cheat. You cheat nobody but yourself, and when the pounds start melting away, you'll be amazed at the results.
            - Move gradually into exercise, but do move into exercising.
            - Set mini-goals, and reward yourself for meeting those goals. (For instance, I wanted to lose a certain amount by my birthday, and when I met that goal, I had my first dessert in 6 weeks on my birthday night).

I've lost 33lbs since February 7, and am within 6lbs of what I had initially set as my goal. I decided to drop that goal even lower as a result of my success with the diet, and am going to see how far I can get by June 5 (my target date).

            Good luck!!!

            - Andrew

                Hi,

                ensive
If one is in the Induction Phase, are we not allowed to eat Atkins bars? On the Atkins site they recommend the bars as a snack or meal and I see here that Pammie suggests not to eat them. Please forgive me if understood wrong. I'm new to this and I want to make I'm following the rules.

                :wave
                Thanks,
                Eddie

No, you understood right. Atkins bars are not acceptable on induction. The site says they are because they want to sell them. The point of induction is to break your addiction to carbs and sugar, not reinforce em.

                  I don't know about hellmans, I use Kraft, its 0sugar 0 carbs.

                  TIPS (things I do, anyway)
-drink MORE than your minimum water.

-exorcise at least 3 days a week, your heart rate up for at LEAST 15 minutes, gradually move up to 30 minutes.

                  - DO NOT CHEAT. Think about how you're gonna feel about yourself once all your work goes down the drain for "just one". Plus it will probably make you sick.

-Stay stocked up in the kitchen. I find I get bored with my menu towards the end of the week when there isn't much left for me to eat. Keep induction friendly snacks around.

-get rid of everything you can't have. If you're like me and live with someone who isn't on atkins, either have willpower of steel, or toss all the carbs in a corner somewhere and don't go near em.

-Do yourself a HUGE favor, and go read the FAQ forum. I can bet almost all of your questions are there.

-Stick to whole foods. Make sure some of your veggies are eaten raw as well as cooked, more nutrients!

-Make a fitday account and keep up with your carbs.

-Read through this board. It has every question known to atkineer kind, and the answers.

-Never skip a meal or go more than 6 hours without eating. I eat 4-6 times a day. And as Langrrr said, don't eat past 8:30 as your metabolism slows down at night.

Read the book...follow the rules in the book

I'll take it one step further....plaster the rules of the book and food guideline on the fridge, bathroom mirror, cupboard door....one for your purse..one for the car.

No kidding, I need all of this in front of me so I can remember what in the world I am trying to do.

Hi, Don't be afraid to ask if you have a question about a food before you eat it. Waiting to eat it may save you weeks of feeling bad that you ruined some hard work that you didn't need to. And then again, it may be OK to eat it, but at least you will know in advance. If you do goof up a little, don't quit! Keep going! That's my tried and true advice. Best wishes on your Atkins' journey!

Re: Starting tommorrow , Any tips???

Just remember, loosing the weight is only half of your goal. Keeping it off is just as important. No sense loosing 100 kilos for a few months then just going buck wild and gaining 110 back. If you are really big and really want to loose your weight, and keep it off, you'll need to change not only your diet, but your entire mindset. That's really the biggest challenge blocking anyone's road to success and acheiving what you want.

Atkin's is good because it's very strict in the beginning and then balances out in the later stages. Personally, I think eating out is the devil of any person looking to diet. Atkins keeps you in your own kitchen making your own decisions as to what goes in your food. This alone will help you loose weight.

Finally, I would say don't let the feeling of discouragement wreck your ultimate goal. Unless you are very special, your probably going to feel discouraged on multiple occasions and want to give up. At least I do. I try to keep a backup plan.

I figure it's better to go all veggie if I can't tolerate meat/eggs than to go all fast food/junk food. Personally, I know I only gain weight when I start pumping in the refined carbs (sugar and white rice more than unbleached flours, though).
