  • Want to do this / kidney stones?

I had success on this diet about 2 years ago. I lost 16lbs the first 3 weeks but then I had kidney stones and stopped. They were SSSSOOOOO painful.

Have any of you ever encountered this? I was taking 2 multivitamins a day. I'm wondering if it would be better to take just 1 and see what happens. I want to do the Atkins diet and be successful like everyone else.

    Thanks for your help, all.

I've had kidney stones twice in my adult lifetime (neither of them while doing Atkins) and both times I had recently begun taking vitamins. My urologist seemed to think that perhaps it was the calcium and suggested that I try getting my allottment of calcium from natural sources like brocolli, cheese, and milk. Of course, the milk is out now, but I do take a smaller amount of calcium from supplements, make sure I eat brocolli and cheese regularly, and drink TONS of water (at least 16 8-oz glasses per day). So far so good! Good luck!

were your kidney stones calcium or ureic acid?

The water will help flush the insides of your kidneys to keep the levels down and if they were calcium you can make sure you don't consume oxsalic sp? acid foods with your calcium foods. The diet itself does not cause kidney stones and there are several studies out that show this.

My boss had them and his Dr told him to add lemon juice to his water -susposedly that helps keep them from forming.
