  • Feeling good about me!

    Hey everyone,
I'm now about 3 1/2 weeks into this WOE, and I have to say that I love it!

Today I went to work, and for the first time in about 10 years was wearing size 38 waist jeans and an XL shirt. Several people made nice comments about me looking thinner, looking better, etc... I have to tell you that I'm so not used to those kinds of compliments!!! It really felt good!

I lost a lot in the first 2 to 2 1/2 weeks, but in the last week I've actually gained a pound back, but I know that I've lost inches. I'm in 4 notches on the belt!!! Whoooo Hooooo!!!!

At first on this WOE I really didn't have much energy, and my stamina was low. Yes, I was putting in time on the treadmill, about an hour a day, most days... but, I could only jog for a minute or two, then would have to walk for a bit... but today I was able to do 8 minutes at a good pace before having to take walk breaks! It's taken a while, but the endurance is really starting to build up quickly now. My times on the treadmill went from taking 20 minutes for the first mile to now taking about 11 1/2... and getting better each day.

Yeah, it's a little bit discouraging to see a pound increase in 7 days, but I know that I'll get a nice whooshie pretty soon! And, more importantly, I know that my health is getting better each and every day! I just feel better.

I guess I'm writing this to encourage those who are feeling disappointed because they haven't lost as fast as they were hoping they would, and those just beginning so that they might know what to expect.

It just gets better every day. So, stick to the plan. Believe in what the good Dr. A. has to teach, and please do share your experiences here.

I really missed today when it was down. So glad it's back up and that I'm able to share with you all.

There are so many inspiratoinal people here. I wish I had time to say thank you to each and every one of you! It really is like a big supportive family.

    Thanks everyone!!!

4 belt notches! I'm impressed! Keep up the good work.
I read that the best way to build a healthy heart and endurance is to interval train yourself. Start walking on the treadmill. After 4 mins run for 2 mins, the drop back and walk for 2 mins, then run for 2 and so on. Do about 4 -5 mins walk cooldown at the end. My personal trainer (who I am paying a heap of money that is leaving me scratching, so you guys might as well get some benefit too) confirmed this is the best way to use a treadmill.
I cannot run due to my old ankle injuries, so I walk 1 km/p/hpour faster for the 2 mins, he said even this is enough to get the interval training good effect.

          2Big,
Exactly!!!! That's what I'm going with... I like the shrinking Rick! Take care of the inches and the lbs will come! You're a serious inspiration on this board! Thanks for all of your input.

          Odille,
That's pretty much what I do... interval stuff. I was doing a minute or two to begin with, but now my intervals are longer running, shorter walking. I am really trying to keep my heartrate in the aerobic zone. I wear a heartrate monitor and try to keep it in the 130's. You're another inspiration on the board. Thanks!

Way to go Rick! Those are awesome results! You have a great attitude too. You're obviously committed for the long haul. And you know, unless you have your weight tatooed on your forehead, no one will know whether you went up or down. But they will notice your trim little waist in that newly tightened belt. You are a good inspiration for the rest of us too. Thanks.

Thanks Biogeek. You're doing great too!

Betty, I don't think I'll ever be slimjim, but who knows. My body structure probably won't let that happen, but I am going to be healthy and that's what counts. Yes, it's exciting, but mostly encouraging to have more energy and stamina. The first couple of weeks I was wondering about the whole stamina thing, but I guess the body is slowly learning to run on fat as my fuel. That's definitely a good thing!

Thanks Wannabethintoo! Are you drilling those new recruits hard?

Caro, hadn't seen you around before, but it looks like you've been doing Atkins for a while. Looking at the difference in your pictures is amazing! Thanks for the encouragement.

Ladyinred, thanks, and yes I'm definitely in this for the long haul. You know, I'm not sure I would have made it even this far without this place to come post results to. I mean, I'm sad that there are other people in this shape, but it's nice to know that we can all be here to encourage and inspire each other.

Thanks again everyone, and happy low carbing!!!

                            Well done, Rick!

We apparently started at about the same time so your success and enthusiasm are an inspiration! It's amazing how little time it takes on Atkins to start feeling better physically, isn't it? It's like Caro said, once that sugar haze is gone, it's a whole new world!

Congratulations on what you've accomplished so far and I look forward to keeping track of your further successes!
