  • 100lbs and kept it off for 4 years and counting

    Hi Guys!

I thought I'd post my story. I was BIG on and off for years. I finally got to be about 310lbs on my 6' frame. That was a lot. I had tried Atkins before at the suggestion of a personal trainer - but I didn't read the book. Lost 30 lbs but popped it right back on. July 4th weekend 4 years ago, I sat down and read the book. I followed induction strictly and rode the wave down. I lost 50 lbs almost magically in about 6 weeks. I then kept at it - writing down my carb content each evening in a little book- until I was 199lbs on Christmas Day. Thaks to the holidays, I shot back up to 205 - 210lbs and stayed in that range for three years.

Starting with the Holidays this year, I've been letting myself eat more & more carb - but it got out of hand. I'm now about 215 - 217.

While this is grat compared to where I was - it isn't where I want to be. My original goal weight was 195 - and I want to get there. So - it is back to induction for me.

Following Atkins all these years has been great for me and really saved my life.

That's fantastic, Thinker. You should be very pleased with your successes.

It never fails to fascinate me how so many will adopt this WOE for the long-term, returning in a knee-jerk, instinctive way, when the scale is telling us what we'd rather not hear. My body, for one, is very insistent that I return to Atkins when I'm being not so dilligent in my habits. It's the only WOE that feels good for me. After hearing your story, I found one more who apparently experiences a similar thing.

        Way to go!

              Great story.

195lb? I'd like to be there too!
Atkins didn't say 'Calories don't count',
              he said, 'Don't count calories.'

Your story is very inspirational and shows you're human. You have fallen, but haven't stayed down. So in your story I see a fighter as well as a great THINKER! Thanks for the sharing your story as I make my way to Onederland.

Hi guys! Thanks so much for your words & encouragement!! It has been actually fun getting back into the full swing of things this last few weeks. I'm already down abotu 7 lbs.

I have to say, over the last several years, I rarely got bored of "Atkinsing" as a long term way of eating. I never had bad bloodwork or felt bad.

I hope to post with you all soon!!

Heidi - my correspondent - I never even thought about the cooking forum. What a nice idea. I do have to say, I wish I would have discoverd this forum years ago. It's nice to see people "obsessed" in a good way, like I am, about how this all seems to work.

                    Thanks for the tip!!
