        Re: What motivated you?

I was in agony just walking up and down stairs in my home. I got very tired and aching easily, even shopping in a mall, I would have to rest every 5 minutes. When I was on a cruise, I couldn't go on many of the excursions on land, as I couldn't keep up with the group, so dh went as I would force him to go without me. I didn't want to ruin his fun. I felt disgusted when I looked in the mirror. I looked like a fat woman, and it truly was me in that big body. I wanted to wear more stylish clothes,,, I can go on and on about what motivated me, but the most important of all, I wanted to be healthy and live a long life actively!!!

          Re: What motivated you?

          motivation came from three places

1 health ...my blood pressure was high
2 ego....I wanted to be a hot middle aged mama
3 the desire to be a good example to my patients who struggle so much with weight

                  1. I saw my overweight mother when i looked in the mirror.
                  2. My butt was holding my smaller clothes hostage.
                  3. Did I mention my OVERWEIGHT MOTHER in MY mirror?

                    Re: What motivated you?

its sad that even when i was 339 i really didn't think i looked that bad. Then once in awhile i'd catch my image in a store window and i'd be horrified, that's not how i really look is it? (for some reason just looking at my upper body at home didn't give the same effect) probably the worst was looking at christmas pictures with the family. I finally started to avoid the camera because i realized there weren't going to be any nice looking pictures of me at that time. I really had no hope in dieting, nothing had worked before, i'd stay on a diet 2 days at the most.
So I'd have to say alot of it was my husband's sucess that motivated me. Plus having knees that crack and groan at 33 is another! So far so good, part of me thinks im still dreaming...i haven't been under 200 since highschool! * a long ways to go*

                            Re: What motivated you?

The scale. (As in what I saw scared me to start/stick with it.) How happy I feel when something that didn't use to fit fits. All of the people who tell me I can't do it. I feel 300% better following the Atkins way of life than I did eating whatever tasted good. When I was 16(?) I did Atkins and lost 45 lbs in one month, then I went off and gained all of it plus plenty more back. Knowing that if I revert to old eating habits for just one day could erase everything I've done so far makes the cookies and pizza look much less tempting. I also have a weight/food/exercise binder that I keep track of things in, and I'm going to add motivational pictures/quotes. Good luck, I'm sure you'll do great.

                              Re: What motivated you?

I think this forum has been my greatest support and motivation this past weeks.
Home I dont have much support, my bf feedson chocolate and pasta.
Also, 18 months ago I wasnt big. I remember how it felt to be able to go shopping for nice small clothes.
I remember how it was to change with my bf in the room without telling him to look the other way.
Being fat has affected my life, home and with friends relatives and ppl I must be with in school.
I hate the looks, I feeling everyone is looking at me everytime I enter a supermarket or a restaurant.
I cant say it is being easy, I lose and gain my kilos, but in a general way I feel much better.
I stopped the thinking "I dont eat and Im still fat, better if I just go for a chocolate, at least I have something".
My mood now is much better, I feel Im doing something that will work, I have hope and a happier life.
We are planning on getting married this summer and I want my bf to be proud of me in my LoTR gorgeous dress.
