I started on Atkins November 1 last year at 240 lbs. The high pressure I felt at the new job I was in caused me to gain 20 lbs. in six months. Prior to that I had never experienced such rapid weight gain. I had previously read about Atkins and was extremely skeptical about it. What pushed me to take my chances was the Duke University study and my worsening reactive hypoglycemia problem. You can see me at my job in this post.
Two days short of a year later, I reached my mini-goal of 180 lbs. I decided that 180 lbs. would be a mini goal for me since it was my weight when I graduated from college back in 1991. My avatar is my college grad pic when I was last 180 lbs.
I also decided that hitting 180 lbs. ws the time I'd go out and buy new clothes. Up to now, I've been wearing my old clothes which had been altered to fit better. Unfortunately, even with the alterations, my clothes feel too "baggy" know.
Two days ago, I bought a new shirt. I used to be an XL but I ended up fitting nicely into an M sized shirt. I also had new pants made and the tailor measured my waistline at 36.5". This is surprising since I had never fit into an M-sized shirt nor have I ever had a 36.5" waistline in my entire adult life, not even when I was at this weight in college. I'll post new pics after I get my new clothes done.
Earlier this week, our family had a surprise visit from some relatives. One of them, a cousin of mine, had moved to Singapore and was visiting. She had just started on South Beach and was amazed at how I lokked. She quickly took a picture of me to show her family back home just how well a low-carb WoE works.
I read somewhere that big sucesses rely of smaller successes. I got to my mini-goal because of my success on a clean-induction. Sure I'm not losing weight as fast as I did before and it may take a yer or more to hit goal, but I know I'll get there eventually.
