  • 9 Days of Induction!

Today is my ninth day of induction. I decided to sneak a peek just to see the progression I was making. I could feel my body getting smaller and smaller, but I needed the proof to be on that scale. Guess what, it was! I lost 8 lbs thus far! I can't believe that Atkins is working this great. I must admit, I was a little bit sketchy about this entire thing in the beginning. The induction flu was awful. The cravings were the worst. My mom and aunt make these gorgeous (and delicious) wedding cakes. In fact, I am going to my cousin's wedding this afternoon. It was torture watching them create this cake that I knew I couldn't even have a little taste of. It still sucks, but after viewing the scale, I know it wouldn't be worth it to not have a clean induction.
I am going to continue doing induction for another week. After, I would really love to move onto OWL and add some fruit back into my diet. I do have a few questions to ask that I hope someone answers for me.

    1. Can I ever have sweets, even if it's just a piece of cake on my birthday?
    2. Does your body stay in Ketosis after you leave the induction phase?
    3. Also, I cannot find the Atkins quick mix in the grocery store. Where can I get it???? I went to three different stores yesterday. What section in the grocery store is it in? I looked near the jiffy, bisquick, pancake mix, and even in cereal. Help!
    4. I looked at the Induction Meal Plan on the atkins website. They let you eat food that isn't on the Acceptable food list. Why is that?

    Re: 9 Days of Induction!

Hi, welcome and congratulations on a great start.
    1) Believe it or not, you just won't want cake after youve controlled your sweet tooth. I don't know when your birthday is but I'll be you will come up with something else for a treat. Thick steak, great meal, something like that.
    2) Yes, you should stay in ketosis. Do you have the book? Start with baby steps when you go up the ladder.
    3) I think that many of the Atkins products are gone. If you need to adjust a certain recipe, just ask and the folks will give you a substitute. We try to stay away from that stuff, its expensive and really not induction legal. I saw it once in a health food store if you can't live without it.
    4) Since Dr Atkins died, they have changed the plan to add foods that don't agree with his book Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution, published in 02. Thats the book that we use. His cookbooks don't agree either. Stick with us kid, they are just out to sell stuff.

Those are good questions, thank you for asking them. Much of that is things I wondered as well, like the cake on your birthday part. I'm just on my 2nd day and it still seems very weird that I might not want cake or cake batter ice cream anymore! That will blow my mind!

I was so confused trying to figure out what book to get! Now I know

On my birthday last year, my darling wife, made me a cheesecake. Completely Atkins friendly, 5 net carbs, that cheesecake was awesome. Especially after not having any kind of sweet treats for several months. I shared it with family, and froze 6 pieces too. I stuck popsicle sticks in 3 of them, and when it was really hot last summer, I had a popsicle. A Cheesecake popsicle! Sweet!
I've used the Atkins bake mix before, it was okay, nothing special really, at least nothing that you couldn't do with almond flour, soy flour, or coconut flour.
