  • anyone have success story that's a pear shape?

I am looking for success stories from people who carry most of their weight on thier legs and bottom half.

I am on this WOE for the second (and last) time now. My legs are very disprportionate to the top half of my body. I have read numerous places that lower body fat is hard to get rid of.
I feel a little discouraged at the moment and need to hear what reality might be.

I would love to hear any and all stories! Thanks!

Hey! I wrote the post about losing 55 pounds in three months and I'm a pear. When I'm thin it isn't as a-pear-ant (get it--ha ha), but when I'm overweight, it is pretty obvious.

I have lost a lot of weight quickly, and I've added walking as my aerobics to my daily exercise regimen because I don't want to build muscle so much as tone and burn fat.

You will always have to battle the lower half of your body, but you are so close to goal that I'd recommend a weight trainer at a local gym who can work with you to help you achieve the thighs and rear you are hoping for through exercise and Atkins!

Good luck to you. I can't wait to get to where you are now!

My legs are really large in comparision to the rest of me (and always have been). I leisurely walk about 1.5 miles a day and the inches have shed from my thighs. Might be something to try.

I'm also a pear. I was before Atkins, and I am now that I'm in maintainence. But it's far less noticeable now. Walking helps, but I think I'm just going to be "mismatched" forever. But it's healthier than being an apple!

          Thanks.
I have been heavy on my lower half for my whole life as I result of genetics, gymnastics in grade school, and karate in high school. They bulk up your legs pretty good. But I have always been thin, until I had my 3rd child.
Now my legs are full of cellelite. They have been so hard to get into shape.
The gym thing is out of the question. The memberships in Singapore are OUTRAGEOUS! :yikes
But I walk every morning with my husband, followed by some minor (i mean really minor) weight training.
I guess I wanted to know if it was at all possible to get rid of cellulite and "thunder thighs" as they used to call them. And how long it took, especially if that's where the majority of the weight is that you have to lose. I have read so many places that belly fat is easy to get rid of, but no where read results of bulk fat on lower half.
Thanks for sharing your successes and thoughts!

I'm another pear - and lately I think the bulk of my weightloss has been off my hips and thighs. I don't even recognize my own legs anymore.

When I was overweight, I still had a big lower stomach, but yeah most of my weight was in the hips and thighs and butt.

Anyway, keep up with your exercise and weight training. Work on your calves too - people will focus on them instead of your thighs.

I am THE pear shape- I should be a poster child! My legs are very large and so are my hips. So large that I could have fit a size 16 around my waist but had to wear a size 20 to fit the thighs and butt in. As I have slimmed down though I now just look curvey- not out of proportion..... I guess when your hips are smaller then your shoulders it looks better, huh? Hang in there, you will notice it yourself soon!

I am also a pear! it is not so noticiable now (after 70 lbs) but it is still there.

My legs, especially for me my calves are huge! I swear my calves are some women's thighs! and I have no ankles.

But I know it will come off eventually...I mean it has to stop coming off my chest pretty soon :yikes

I too am a pear. It's the shape I am no matter what I weigh, but the dis-proporation is less noticable now. My 16 yr-old daughter is the same shape, but slim (size 5). She says she likes her big butt and you know, I'm beginning to like mine now more than I did before when I was slim! A lot of it's attitude! My DH sure likes it! LOL!

I'm a pear, and this has definitely worked for me.

At the start, my measurements were:
                    Arms - 14.5 each
                    Chest - 41
                    Bust - 43.5
                    Waist - 39
                    Hips - 45
                    Thighs - 27.5 each
                    Calves - 15.5 each

                    Now, they're:
                    Arms - 12.25
                    Chest - 34.5
                    Bust - 36.5
                    Waist - 31.5
                    Hips - 40
                    Thighs - 23
                    Calves - 14

My weight loss has made me a little more pear-shaped, rather than less - I've lost five inches off my hips and seven off of my bust. Now, I'm far from complaining, because I'm much smaller overall and I wouldn't take any of those inches back for the world! Now that I'm in pre-maintenance, and really close to my goal weight, I'm sure that most of my weight loss will come from my hips and thighs and less from the top half of my body.

Wow! It looks like there really is hope afterall! I am not looking for a major transformation here, just to get rid of this lower body fat as well.

                      Thanks for sharing. :hug

I'm also pear shaped and unfortunately the legs seem to be the last area I lose weight. It's genetics...you can lose weight and tone up but your basic shape isn't going to change much....

Texas Daisy you look fabulous by the way!

                          I've always been pear shaped!

When I started Atkins I was so fat that my huge backside seem to spread from my knees to my boobs. I've actually lost exactly the same number of inches around the bust, waist and hips, only now it's emphasising how pear shaped I am as my top half looks almost normal but I still have the enormous butt. Oh well, I'm half-way to being a success story. Watch this space for another year or so and I'll post another picture of me without the butt :yes

I am a major Pear I have all the rest of my weight I swear on my legs it's comming off so slow now it pisses me off so I have been running and I was doing a ton of weights but, have kinda slowed on that in hopes of losing more weight. LOL

I have gone down from a 58 inch around my thighs to 48 inches that is a lot and since November 2004. I am hoping that they will go down even more.
Oh and my waist is 32 so you can imagine how CURVEY I am.
