  • It's about time.

I was just sitting here thinking about the success i have had so far. I guess it all goes back to childhood when your parents and friends are alwayes telling you, "your not fat, your just a big girl." or "Your just big boned, you could never be thin really." So here i was almost 32 years old, at my highest weight ever.
That stuff was the most rediculous stuff i ever believed. Yeah I believed that i was destined to be fat! I can't believe that it took me all these years to realize that i can be thin. I will be thin. I started this WOE November 1st 2006, induction was tough, but i made it through it. Then i found The Atkins Bulletin Board. Oh my god, I do really believe now that i will be thin. I joined a mileage challenge, thinking to myself "I probably won't be able to do it but i'll give it a try. Lookie here, I just finished 4.12 miles and it's only the 2nd day of the month. So now that i rattled on, my main message is THANKS to all of you on this board. I am going to be thin!

that is EXACTLY the kind of positive self-affirmation that we all need to hear!!! you can never remind yourself enough!

i'm in the same boat, tracie - i've always been a chunk (except for in college, where, miraculously, i was down to 165). i'm about the same age as you (35), and am currently now at my highest weight ever (250 ).
because i'm failry tall (5'10"), my family always gave me the same lines about being "big boned". the only one who was ever blunt about my weight was my grandfather, who was a type II diabetic and must have seen the tendency in me, since i carry the weight mostly around the middle and have always had the proclivity for sugar/carb binges.

those days are over now... keep on keepin' on!

      Re: It's about time.

Tracie that is so funny! When I saw my grandma for Christmas and I mentioned that I was on a diet she said " You have a RIGHT to be FAT!! - Look at all of your relatives!" She named off 4 of her relatives that were close to 300 lbs. each. Sad thing is all of them have passed on, early deaths due to Heart Disease & Diabetes. (She herself has these issues)
HELLO??!!....Grandma, sweet lady...why on earth would you think that I have a right to an early death and a life full of medical issues? Bless her heart...she meant well, but let me tell you it has made me even more motivated!

And you are doing FANTASTIC!!! Keep up the good work - you are motivating me too - I'm very competetive and you are kicking my butt!

I should put in my Siggy..." I DO NOT have a right to be fat!!!" LOL!!

          Re: It's about time.

Oh yeah...I've heard all that too. And bought into it my whole life...bought into it all the way up to 268 lbs and looking like I did in that picture thinking that I looked just the same as an average weight, shorter person. I shudder when I look at that picture now.

Tracie--you WILL be thin. You stay here at ADBB, stay close, stay focused, follow your plan and exercise...and YOU WILL be thin. YOU WILL be healthy. YOU WILL have a bright future. BTW, How's your hubby doing with the WOE??

Lulubelle--you're probably right about your grandpa. Don't let him down now...you can escape diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

Stella, you have a RIGHT to be thin and healthy, definitely not a right to be fat and miserable, girl!

All 3 of you are doing an outstanding job. Keep your DANDR and ADBB close at hand. I reread my DANDR often, staying close to the plan....reminding myself of how it works and why it works.

My hubby has lost 38 Lbs since November 5th. He is looking good. I should take another pic of him and i to put on my siggy. He is doing so much better than me. He found a workout partner so while i treadmill with the kids and cartoons, he goes and worksout. He is doing so well, i am so proud of him.

              Re: It's about time.

Guys have faster metabolisms and it's easier for them to lose weight. Also, when he's "working out" is he doing weight training? (I'm guessing he does, cuz that's a manly workout LOL) If so, THAT is really upping his metabolism even more. YOU could do the same.

The more muscle you build, the more fat you will burn, even when at rest.

Women, without steroid help, simply can't "bulk up", you will get toned and sexy looking even lifting HIGH WEIGHT with low reps.

Here are my first pictures posted last year from when I started weight training...just 6 weeks difference between the befores and afters.

Thanks Joy! And WOW! Where are MY weights! I'm going to Wal - Mart tomorrow!! You did such a great job! Thank you for ANOTHER inspiration. That is why I love this site SOOOO much. You guys are the greatest. It is like reading People magazines 1/2 their size issue and being able to TALK to the people!

Tracie - I am so sore too! I wasn't going to say it but I'm kinda moving slow around here today. It was REALLY hard to do my 2 miles but I did. I did cut out the Curves workout. I needed a break - I'm going to go tomorrow though.
And, I may add that to my Siggy with Joys line added in. Thanks!

Thanks Tracie! If I make it to Feburary, I'll sign up again with you!
And the Abs challenge is not so bad, I only have 30 a day and BOY DO I NEED IT! It is by far my worst area and I can not wait to get rid of it! I missed those today too. I'll make up for it though. Tonite was date night with DH anyway.

                          Goodnight!

The challenges are a great idea. I can only do one at a time though. I got overwhelmed with all the journaling in so many places LOL

Soreness is good. It means you took your muscles to task and they now have to repair themselves. When the muscles repair themselves they build more mass and get larger. Because muscle is a metabollically active tissue, it burns calories even when resting. Fat, however, just sits there like a blob taking up LOTS of space and doing absolutely NOTHING for you.
