  • I posted my story above

    Hi All,
I am 56 years old and live in Gresham Oregon ( Next to Portland)Almost 3 years ago with Diabetes ( Insulin Dependant ) A1c level mostly at 11, High Blood Pressure, ultra high Tryglicerides( over 1650 )weighing 302 pounds and 5'10'' I was in trouble.I was depressed and would have welcomed the chance to die. Unfortunately I couldn't do it myself. Each day was so tough to face.I took a handfull of pills 3 times a day and 3 big insulin shots in my stomach too.I knew I had to do something quick.I tried the Atkins diet with some success and I noticed a real drop in my blood sugars when I was on it. My problem is that I didn't know how much to eat .What portions were the right amount.I was reading on the Atkins Shake Can the nutrients and decided to drink 2 cans each day with extra protein and vitamins and eat 1 good meal each day. It took 11 months of this program changing my main meal each day so I wouldn't get board.I am not much into excercise so I relyed on diet alone. The pounds seemed to melt away.I started in January and by November I had lost 144 pounds down to 158 pounds. That was 1 year and 2 months ago and today I weighed 157.7.The Atkins shakes did the trick!I still drink 2 shakes a day and one good meal. Did I tell you I don't take even one pill anymore and my diabetes ,high blood pressure and high colesterol have diaasppeared and the 1650 plus Triglicerides were 150 at the last testing. My body can operate perfectly with no problems at this weight.I went from an XXL Shirt and a size 50 waist to a Medium shirt and a 33 inch waist. My wife says some things got bigger ,go figure, lucky me.I have never got tired of the shakes as I really like the light chocolote one.For anyone in my same situation it is so worth it.I owe my life to Dr Atkins. Wow that really is a good story. Way to go Bob......I may try that. I weighed 297 when I first decided to give atkins a try again. I couldnt make it through 2 days and my weight went from that to about 302-303 ish. I have now returned to atkins and for some reason, havn't even wanted to stray. I am a drink or eat an already prepared meal type person, so this could work for me.

That was a beautiful story and thank you for printing it. I too am coming back to Atkins. I was on Atkins 30 years ago and was successful for 10 years but then got into carbs because everyone said it was "healthier". You know, I remember the hard times Dr. Atkins had through the years, everyone calling him a quack. Now he has been vindicated in the press (although there are still some who don't believe). But I remember reading him saying that "his patients" were the thing that always kept him going. He was a revolutionary and a true leader. I wish he were around now to really see his "revolution". You posting inspired me when you said, "Dr. Atkins saved my life" - it brings tears to my eyes because I have lost 5 pounds now after an 80 pound weight gain and I know that this way of eating will save my life, too. Thanks again. Barbette
