  • Task completed, goal achieved.

I woke up January 5th of 2004 fat and miserable. Somehow, I weighed 250lbs. Unbelievable... all these years of eating whatever I wanted and now suddenly bam "I'm one of the fat guys". How I got that way isn't really important, the fact is that there I was wearing size 40 or 42 uniform pants, and feeling about 50 trapped in a 30 year old body.

Now here I am, looking back at 2004. On Christmas morning, I weighed in at 164.. 1 pound below my goal. 355 days after being obese and unhealthy, I write this post in hopes someone else will get a simple message from it:

    You can do this.

In those 355 days, I lost a total of 85lbs. More importantly, my bodyfat percentage has dropped from near 30 to 17. I now wear size 30 jeans, and size 31/32 dress or uniform pants. Hard to understand how much of a psychological difference it makes to someone who is overweight - knowing they now wear the "normal" size clothes.

How did I do it? I busted my ***... nothing comes cheap or easy. Finding Atkins was a huge help to me, I started Atkins in May and have lost the vast majority of my weight in OWL. For me, exercise was the key. The more I worked out, the better I felt - which made me want to exercise more.

The way I look at food and the foods I enjoy have changed forever. I can easily consume over 100g of net carbs a day now, yet my choices are SOOOO different. Believe it or not, (I didn't when I started!) you do grow to crave and love foods you never thought you would eat. Daily consumption of salads, vegetables, and fruits just wasn't a reality for me... now I don't go a day without scarfing down these things.

Life is much simpler now, and much, much more fun. Being thin IS all it's cracked up to be, no matter how much I as a fat person denied it. The energy level you get when your body is finally back comfortable with itself is amazing, and it helps you make it through that next temptation.

I will never be fat again, I promise you that. It took too long and too much effort to get back to where my body belongs, and I can't jeopardize myself for some stupid double iced cinnimon sticky bun of love at every corner.

I post this not for congratulations or pats on the back, but in hopes that someone will see it and make a decision to give it an honest effort. If you follow the book, stop making excuses and get off your *** and MOVE, and learn portion control ---- you will be posting here to.

It really is that simple folks... I wouldn't have made it if it wasn't.

Thanks to everyone here for the support and answers along the way, and thanks to Dr. Atkins up in heaven enjoying his chocolate flax cake sweetened with liquid splenda.

          You are awesome DUDE

I just read your post, what a Christmas present to yourself. I have barely started this diet, and I am giving up my beloved caffine and my husband and I were just talking about if I would exercise I wouldn't need the caffine! I was happy to read how you exercised and how much you looked forward to it. Again, this site is the doggone best thing to happen to a dieter, the help you get from a complete stranger, who is really a new friend, you just haven't met yet! Congratulations to you, and a wonderful post! ha terrig
