Hi, all. I'm not necessarily saying this is a success story, but I just wanted to vouch for the ability of Atkins in helping to keep me from gaining all my weight back and then some when I screwed up. Here's my bio:
M, 30s, 6'0", HW ever 273, CW 215, excercise (yes)
1992 - HW 236 - lost 45 lbs, gained it all back +.
1996 - HW 268 - lost 65 lbs, gained it all back +.
1999 - HW 270 - lost 60 lbs, gained it all back +.
Sep/2002-Jun/2004 - HW 273
Jun/2004-Feb/2006 - got down to 250 and more or less stayed there.
2/27/06 - Atkins induction, lost 35 lbs in 2 mos, was fully committed to prog for that short amt of time.
May/2006 - 8/13/07 - (cough) got a little lazy...
8/14/07 - 8/25/07 - 222 lbs down to 215 on 12 days of Atkins induction.
During the lag time between my first real go at Atkins and my current one, I went back to eating mashed potatos w/ my protein, etc. I fluctuated in weight and inches here and there, but I WAS able to avoid totally ballooning again merely by eating more protein than carbs just in general.
Even though I failed in sticking with the program for 6+ months like I had originally planned, being more carb conscious since then has made this the only time in years that I was able to hover at a weight close enough to what I had originally lost. That has helped me feel that starting up again wouldn't be a huge ordeal. In only 12 days, I'm back at my low weight from the first go-round and I am mentally ready to stick w/ this for at least 6 months because I am now aware of the trap that I fell into 1.5 yrs ago when I thought to myself, "What could a hamburger bun hurt?"
I guess what I'm trying to say is that if you've gotten off the Atkins wagon, don't give up and don't completely let yourself go while you're waiting for the next wagon. An odd benefit to this has been that after seeing how effective Atkins was the first time, I have never been happy at 220-225, whereas I would have loved to be that weight years ago on hi-carb, no red meat diets. Stay strong, peeps.

along with the implication/wish for that "at least six months" to become "permanently"!
