  • starting (again)

I've done Atkins several times over the years and it has always helped me to lose weight. However, I have strayed in the last few years and my weight has steadily crept up. I stopped doing yoga when I started graduate school, stopped walking as much when I moved from New York to L.A. and am now carrying 155 pounds on a 5'4 frame. I was recently trying to lose some weight through a low fat, low calorie , mainly vegetarian diet. After a month of 1200 calories a day and exercising I hadn't lost one pound! I am a serious carb addict - bread, rice, pasta, red wine. Atkins has always helped me to deal with those cravings.
So: I'm (re)starting induction today. My ultimate goal weight is 125. My first goal weight, hopefully by christmas, is 148. Anyone have any tips for speeding up induction? I've sort of been doing it for five days, but had some drinks on my birthday. Haven't seen any loss at all yet.
    thanks

Welcome to the Board! I not sure what you mean by speeding up induction (do you mean your losses?). The first thing to do is cut out all the alcohol and do a really clean 14 induction. Good luck!

      Re: starting (again)

thanks for the good advice, all.
Yes, I meant speeding up weight loss during induction and - lo and behold - after the last three days of doing induction by the book I've lost 3 pounds. I love that this diet works. I love that I don't feel like eating all the time, and I love that I don't feel the need for a glass of wine at the end of the day.
I have a question, though - we are allowed 2-3 cups of leafy greens per day, right? But is that measured raw or cooked?
      thanks!

I think that is measured raw. I myself haven't really introduced myself but I am currently 155 pounds the same height as you are and I lost 5 pounds since I started doing atkins last week. I wish you well as I aiming at reaching 140 by christmas time.

          Nice to meet you minatieno,
Your goal is 140 by christmas, hm? Perhaps my goal of 147 by christmas was too modest... I just turned 29 and I really feel that my metabolism has slowed down in the last 2 years, so I thought that losing 7 pounds in 4 weeks was a realistic goal. Maybe I should aim higher though
Anyway thanks for introducing yourself-- it will be interesting to see how we both progress with our similar body types. btw, do you exercise?

It is nice to meet you too, btw I am 30 and feel the same exact way. I just started exercising and bought a pedometer to count my steps daily. I aim for about 12000 steps which is roughly 5+miles everyday. This is the first time I am seeing any progressa and like you I cannot wait to get to 147 though hopefully before christmas.

              hi minatieno
a pedometer is a good idea... I generally just go to the gym and walk uphill through one episode of law and order - lazy person's exercise! When I did atkins several years ago I also did either pilates or yoga everyday and boy did my body change quickly- in three months I really looked markedly different. If only I had that kind of time/drive now. But it sounds like you're pretty motivated, good for you
Good luck, and keep in touch
