  • Unreasonable Goal?

    Hi everyone,

I just started the induction phase on Monday and need to lose 80 pounds. :yikes I've tried this before but never had the right amount of motivation and determination. This time, I have a goal because I'm going on a trip to Costa Rica in July to have some work done, and I'm having major issues with my knee, whish was operated on after an accident a few years ago. Doctors say I MUST lose as much weight as possible before the procedures in order to achieve the best results, so I set a goal of 50-60 pounds. I can lose the rest of the 80 pounds after the fact. I started a workout regimen on Monday as well but don't know if maybe I'm shooting to high. Do you guys think losing 50-60 pounds in 5 months is realistic? Do you know of anyone who's been able to do this in such short period of time? ensive

When I was doing atkins in 03 I lost 45 pounds in 3 months. Everybody is different and you may or may not be able to lose that much that fast. But the keys to losing the most weight you personally can on this diet is: following the rules religiously, never cheating, and excersizing! good luck!

There is no right answer to your question, I'm afraid. If you read the book, follow it to the letter, exercise, never cheat - your body will lose exactly what is right for you. Every single one of us is different. We have different metabolisms, different exercise regimens, different stress levels, different support systems, different genetics, etc. Although it's difficult not to compare our own weight loss with others, you have to accept that your weight loss will be different from anyone else's here -- it may be slower, it may be faster, but it will be what's right for you!

It can be done. I lost the weight easily with Atkins and exercise. But to point out some things I didnt know so much at the time is body fat percentage. When your losing to much weight to fast you will see increased muscle loss.

Be sure to test you body fat percentage weekly and if your seeing muscle loss you'll have to slow the amount of weight loss. Losing muscle will raise your body fat percentage and slow your metabolisim.

Also what good is it to lose 50 lbs if your still at the same body fat percentage when you are finished.

              Total Lost 70 lbs
              Body fat: 30+% to 6.5%

                Hi,

If you follow an extended induction, drink lots of water and workout, it should happen. I think I will hit 50 pounds by the end of this month, which will be about 3 1/2 months.

                Good luck,

                V.

                    Re: Unreasonable Goal?

I lost about seventy pounds doing it low cal and high carb. Atkins has let me lose 13lbs in less than two months, it's an amazing diet and especially during induction gives quick results.

Keep in mind that as you near your goal, your weight loss may slow down drastically.
Read the book, follow it to the letter, don't cheat, drink your water, and exercise. In 5 months there will definitely be a change, we just can't be sure how much of a change.

Depends on many things. Age, sex, and genes will give different results. To maximize YOUR results follow the advice given: follow the book, do not cheat, exercise, and drink lots of water. It is possible!!!!!!

Depending on your metabolism, it could be doable. My dad had 55 lbs to lose and lost all of it in 3 mos on Atkins extended induction. My husband lost 90 lbs in 5 and a half months. My metabolism isnt as good as theres is however and it took me a year to lose 81 lbs. on Atkins induction/OWL.

                            Re: Unreasonable Goal?

The first time around I lost 32lbs in just over 2 months, including a cheat here and there, and I stopped exorcising about halfway through (I got a job where I was on my feet 9 hours a day anyway!) I got stuck at 197 and wouldnt move at all until I got really sick with a really high fever, and that actually bumped me out of my stall and back to losing consistantly.I know the more you have to lose the fast it'll come off, at first. Then everyone slows down as they get around their desired weight.
