  • 20 days in, 19 pounds lost

Hello, my name is Tina and i started on induction on june 14th and at this moment i am so excited about this. I did feel really bad at first, but it got better. yesterday we went to lincoln, ne and we usually go out to eat like at carlos o kellys (mexican) and I opted not to go out to eat. today at work they gave us rootbeer floats and I had no problem denying one. i am staying on extended induction to get closer to my goal.
I have a serious problem though, I absolutely hate all the vegatables I should be having. So, I have had none. I had only had one bowel movement in 14 days, so I took laxative and it worked, but now still the same. I am so worried about the vegatable thing, but I absolutely cannot.
My doctor wanted me to take b complex vitamins since i am not eating veggies, but I smelled the pill and there is no way at all i can take it. Maybe if I could do injections of b complex lol
anyway, the veggie thing has really got me worried. I am having superb success though and i keep moving forward. i have started doing lots of walking and i love it. any advice from anyone would be so helpful. i love this board, but am shy to post very often.
    thanks for listening

Do you have an aversion to all vegetables? Bowel movements averaging once every 14 days and then only by laxative is NOT GOOD. Sounds to me like you are going to have to retrain your taste buds. I take the b complex vitamin as well as centrum performance every day. I can tell a huge difference if I miss one in my energy level. You want this WOE to become lifelong so you can reach and maintain a healthy weight as well as stay healthy. You can run into some serious problems with blockages if your bowels aren't moving. Which incidently, not to scare you, but if aren't remedied can poison your system. I have had two family members , albeit elderly, that have passed away with blockages because they got too far out of hand. That wasn't their only ailment but the blockages is what finally took their life.

            Yahoo! for you!
I do worry about your fiber tho..need it to stay regular..did your doctor mention this to you?
are you taking a fiber suppliment as DR A suggested..
don't know how to respond to the veggie problem..but I do know that this is a life time plan..once you reach your goal weight you won the fight to get your body ready for the war ahead..permanent weight loss and a lifetime of well-being.

My doctor supports this WOE, but I do not know what to take for fiber supplement or whatever and yes veggies are definately a problem. as far as pills, and liquids, I have a high gag reflex. I have been doing so well, does this mean i am going to fail because I have this bowel problem. I need serious help because i am doing so well. please any suggestions , i need it.

I would like to chat with you more, maybe I can send you a Private Message, but for now, veggies are absolutely non-negotiable. If you truly can't eat them naturally, there are all sort of recipes that can help them taste like something else. Try Linda's Low Carb Menus & Recipes - Home and The Lighter Side of Low-Carb for wonderful suggestions.

A few of them that I have tried that have been excellent are Chinese "Fried Rice," from Linda's, and the garlic breadsticks and calzones from The Lighter Side of Low Carb. You can also expand to try things like eating cherry tomatoes. I have found that now, after more than a month with no sugar, they are incredibly sweet and actually taste like a dessert to me.

What are your other stats (how tall, how old are you). We have the exact same start and goal weights, so it would be great to talk in more length. I lost 15.4 pounds in induction, so I know how great it feels to have a jump start. As soon as I moved up to rung 1, I discovered that if I don't have ENOUGH veggies, the weight loss slows down. It is very very important to make sure you are getting them in, even if you have to trick your taste buds into thinking they are eating something else!

Hope this helps a bit, experiment with recipes and keep asking questions!

You are well on your way to a healthy, happy self!

Congrats on the weight loss so far! Ok so if u're not eating veggies what are u eating??? have u tried making em a bunch of different ways? Prior to atkins the only veggies i liked was corn and occasionally broccoli. For lunch today i had chicken wings and faux rice ( mashed cauliflower, seasoned, add butter and some parm cheese Yumm!) Sometime u just have to get in the kitchen and get creative.

                      Hello Tina,

19 pounds that is great!! Congratulations. Try to take the vitamins as the book suggests. I think is good your health if you are not eating the veggies.

I have lost 17 pounds but I am loosing it slowly. I hope I can loose more but your story gives me motivation , so I think I will do 50 minutes today in the gym. I usually do cardio 30 minutes.

                      I love reading this forum.

you gotta eat veggies. find a new way to make them that makes you tolerate the taste. I find it hard to believe that anyone can hate steamed broccoli with melted cheddar cheese.

                          Hi Tina....

What about using a fiber supplement such as benefiber....you can dissolve it in your favorite drink or add it to your food.

Yeppers you have to disguise those veggies and look for recipes that sound interesting to you. I think the cauliflour with parmesan cheese sounds wonderful and sounds like great way to disguise the taste of cauliflour which I don't particularily like. Will give that one a go. Maybe you could make a veggie soup that would work for you?

                              Hi Ladytina,

First of all congrats for the loss. I am from down under and I am still on my intro.

I really do understand you. I HATE vegies. Really hate 'em.
If you read my post in "spotlight yourself..( I am new and would like to join..) you can see how much I have struggle with this.

But I really tried it for myself not for anybody else. Just go to an Asian supermarket and find out something different. There is something I like over there, It looks like a water plant with long tube stems and leaves. If you need the name, I will get the name for you tomorrow.
I will give you the recipe here.
cut the bunch into 5 pieces heat olive oil n put it there. add bit of dried chillies spray sesame oil n salt. You got to cook only 4 minutes in high flame.

Try it , I know this vegie problem.
