  • 22 lbs lost in 21 days

This week went well, haven’t cheated with anything since beginning on July 19/08. Considered cheating one night but knew it wasn’t the right thing to do and just didn’t do it. What’s the point in cheating I asked myself? All I would have gained were a couple of nano seconds of perceived satisfaction and then a week of dealing with feeling of extreme guilt and possible weight gain, not to mention a stall in results…not something I’m willing to do. For me, one cheat would most likely turn into another, and then another and so on and before I know it, I would be out of control.

Went out for dinner at a friend’s place yesterday, of course chips, dessert, etc were served. Managed to get through the whole visit without slipping so I was pretty thrilled about that. Stuck to eating roast beef, salad and cauliflower for dinner, skipped on the pre-dinner snacks and skipped on the dessert…drank lots of water.

In total this week I lost 4 lbs. slower week but I’ll take it! I’ve decided to extend my Induction time, I’m quite liking it at this level. I may consider moving up one of the rungs in a couple more weeks. I think the Induction level has challenged me to be very disciplined with myself and my choices, I have appreciated it.

Have a great week and remember….no cheating…it’s totally not worth it!!!!

    CONGRATS!!!!

    Any loss is soooooooo good!!

And you're absolutely right about cheating. It's just not worth it. Especially after you're starting to feel so good and see the numbers on your scale go down!!

    Keep it up girl!!

Re: 22 lbs lost in 21 days - 1 month anniversary update

        Hi Miss Nikki & Lisa,

Thank you so much for your messages of encouragement, they mean a lot to me!

I wanted to post on the forum during this past weekend to a number of people’s posts but wasn’t able to because I was prepping to under go a colonoscopy and felt a bit rough in doing so (which happened this morning btw). Needless to say prepping for this colonoscopy was pretty interesting because they only allow you to have clear liquids like coffee, tea, juice, consume and Popsicles for two days leading up to the procedure (you’re not allowed solid food).....so even through prepping for the procedure I stuck it out and didn't cave in and have any popsicles or juice….I refused to give in and instead I had two cups of beef broth on Sunday and then rest of what I drank was water...then yesterday I had one cup of beef broth and the rest water. (I was shocked when looking for broth…all the chicken broth I could find had carrots, celery and syrup in it which was shocking! My darling husband hunted around for me and managed to finally find some beef broth that I was ok for me to have…I didn’t have anytime to make some from scratch otherwise I would have) I was thrilled that I didn't cheat on popsicles or fruit juices leading up to this procedure….I have not cheated at all since beginning Atkins on July 19-08 and don’t have any desire to do so.

As of today (this is my one month anniversary from starting Atkins!!!!) I have lost 27 pounds in total during my first month and I am absolutely thrilled. Since April of this year, I have lost a total of 67 lbs now and counting the few pounds I lost last year that I somehow managed to keep off...I'm at a total of 80 lbs lost. (I weighed myself this past Sat. and I was at 320 lbs….I started at 347 lbs on July 19/08 I am looking forward to entering the 200 range...I haven't been there in years.

I have a ways to go still, which is frustrating but I know I got myself here and it will take time to get myself back to where I should be. I simply try to take each day as it comes and celebrate my small accomplishments whether they be pounds lost or not giving into a food I know I should not partake of. By focussing on what is presently in front of me, I am not getting hung up on how much further I have to go...I am not a patient individual so harping on the big picture doesn't do me any good....this is the first time I've ever kept myself from doing that and it's very helpful. I am confident that I will reach my goal and be able to maintain it through eating properly via the lifetime maintenance plan.

I can not begin to describe how great I’m feeling. I’m exercising (walking, resistance training with weights and doing sit ups). I drink lots and lots of water….that is very important! I think our community is going to issue a water restriction on me soon LOL!!!!

One day I will post pictures…if I can figure out how…I am technically challenged in that manner!

Thank you again for your wonderful words of encouragement and support. This forum means a great deal to me. I’m looking forward to continuing to celebrate everyone’s achievements as well as getting through the difficult times which we all go through from time to time.

Happy 1 month anniversay with Atkins!

I hope the test results go well for you, Sarina.

Good for you sticking to the no-sugar and bless that husband of yours hunting around for the broth that works the best! He gets a gold medal in my book .

I'm so proud to hear that you've continued to lose since you last posted...even with prepping for the procedure, although you probably didn't have much of a choice there . It does take time to lose the weight. But I think you have the strength and determination to keep going forward from here and focusing on your goals. I bet you'll be seeing 200s in no time!

Don't forget to exercise, drink you water, and smile with the accomplishments you've made since you first started-----80 pounds gone is nothing to sneeze about! You're doing great!

I can't wait to hear how things progress for you!

Thank you all for your posts of encouragement and support, I appreciate it greatly! You guys are fabulous!

I hope to continue this weight loss but having said that I'm experiencing extreme challenges today for the first time. Today was the first time since I began Atkins where I craved food that I shouldn't have like crazy. I'm thinking it's because I fasted for two days without really eating (only consumed broth 3 x times) due to having to under go the colonoscopy and my system may be out of wack now. I'm not even hungry but I have this driving force making me want to eat and thinking about eating bread or something ridiculous like that. The cravings have been pretty strong all day but I've managed to stick it out and not cheat and I'm determined not to give in. Hopefully this passes soon, it's difficult to try to get through but I'm resisting it.

I think I'm going to go and try to do some exercising, maybe this will help out in some way.

Just thought I would throw in an update...what a sudden change! Things were going so good....in reality, things are still good, just dealing with over coming strong urges and not giving in.

Those strong urges, Sarina, make a huge difference from this point on in your weight loss journey. You're learning what's going to make you stronger in your personal determination to get to your goals!

I would not doubt fasting for those days would cause those urges, and good for you not giving in and even recognizing them.

You're absolutly on your way to making good changes towards a healthier you!

Re: 22 lbs lost in 21 days

                        Hi Lisa,

Thanks so much for the encouragement & support, I really appreciated receiving your post.

My husband and I went out for our nightly walk this evening after I posted my update and then came home and I did some weights. I must say, I am feeling much better and the craving has almost come to a stop FINALLY. I can't begin to tell you how severe they were, I was feeling out of control...the same way I was feeling prior to beginning Atkins...I can not describe how bad that was then....I was so scared today and earlier this evening that I was starting to spin out again and that all that has been accomplished would be jeopordized but I was determined to work through it and not give in. I think the exercise helped emensely to get through these emense cravings and I really dug deep and focussed on getting through it rather then giving into them. A lot of self talk I can tell you that! LOL! I really want to suceed this time as there isn't any reason why I can't. I want to be healthy and I want to be fit. That is what my goal is and I am determined to make it happen.

Instead of giving in due to stress and what I "think" is going to happen. I'm learning how to deal with it in a healthy, logical and rational way. By doing so, these are the tools that will get me through the tough times such as lastnight and all throughout the day when the craving and never ending thought of food reared it's ugly head. I probably ate more then I should have today but I kept it to protein and fats like olive oil and chicken as well as some salad and veggies that I was allowed.....not to mention a lot of water.

Thanks again for writing this evening, I can not tell you how much I appreciated reading your post.

All the very best to you,
                        Sarina
