  • Too many years ...

    hello all;

I'm new. Started the Atkins diet (again) on Sunday. This time I'm doing it along with my husband, we excercise & prepare the food together.. becomes easier.

I know some of you can relate with me when I say its been too many years of wishing I could lose my extra weight... and not accomplishing it.

Looking at pictures taken at different social events and feeling ashamed, not enjoying normal activities as shopping for clothes ( its hard to find something that fits), going with my friends to the beach and wishing I could wear a bikini... letting my husband lift me in his arms ( been married 4 years and I've never let him even try), having that highschool reunion or wedding to go in several months and thinking.. OMG I got to loose weight.. to get to that date and probably be heavier and then making up some excuse why I couldn't make it, when in reality I was just sad and again.. ashamed. Also, worrying over my health, and still not doing enough to do better. And thinking all the time if I'll die young because of something I could not control.

My husband has also gained a lot of weight... He's 5'6 and 215lbs. I'm 5'5 200lbs. When I hit the 200 mark I was sad, dissapointed and that's when we finally made the decision. We bought an spinning bike, and we started the diet.

Final goal for both is 60lbs each. So we will divide it into 3 small goals
I hope we can make it, our first goal is to lose 20lbs each.

I really enjoyed reading all the success stories, I hope to post ours soon.

    Take care

    Re: Too many years ...

Hello, well you came to the right place, and it is very true that when you have a close support system the ride goes much smoother. For me I find that I always need to eat at least every 4hrs so I don't allow myself a long time to think of other foods that might at the time seem better than low carb. I just found a new love of avoccodos lots of fiber and great with chicken and taco meat. Good luck to you and your hubby. You can do it!!

I can soooooooooo relate to your feelings about losing the weight. I used to hide in my house. I was lonely and bored, but I just never wanted to get out and do things because I HATED how I looked. Tis way of eating allowed me to not only lose weight, but to like being in my own skin.

Congrats on setting yourself up for success. I hope to see you around!

            Ummmm Bikini,

Can I just tell you to get out of my head!!!! lol. I was just posting these same feelings last week! It's almost like not participating in your own life. I am so done with those days and you will be too....You are so worth it.

To quote SoCalKevin "You deserve to be thinner"....and you know what...this really works.

I have been really sick this week so I've been kinda down in the dumps on myself and my surroundings and I haven't really posted at all because I was thinking of how depressing I may sound, but I think everyone here is used to the fact that we all have our days....I personally relate to all you are talking about. I can't even remember a 1/3 of all the lies I have told due to being ashamed of being the weight that I am. Being Fat has nearly caused me to create a soot filled brick road to **** for myself with the lies "to keep from being seen" that I have told all by themselves....okay, not sure if that made any sense, but in case it did (insert laugh here). Alright that's the end of my comedy show for today.

Bottom line, Everyone here is very friendly and honest and direct and we have all encountered similar feelings. I look forward to reading your posts often.

Best wishes to you and hubby!

Yes we can relate. How did you do on your first week? It really helps to have spouse on board, DH is doing this with me as well. But I make sure he knows he's responsible for his eating and I am for mine. If he decides to cheat it doesnt' mean I am going to jump ship with him. He's on his own if he decides to stray from plan. This is my life and it's time I start running it right.

                Re: Too many years ...

                Hello Y'all !

So today I'm posting our first week's accomplishments... Drums....

Each of us lost 8 lbs !!!! EIGHT !!! I think its really good...

My hubby cheated a little bit a couple of days, had coffee, a littlebit of corn in his salad... couple of small russet potatoes... So maybe that's why we both lost same amount of weight ( I truly believe guys loose it easier) plus I did more excercise than him... he says he's been feeling a little without energy, I'm totally on the other side, I feel hyper!! Maybe its the excitement of loosing weight that carries me on!!

But as you said it "poobears1972" ""If he decides to cheat it doesnt' mean I am going to jump ship with him"" Still I think he's doing pretty good, we both are, and today I thank him for doing this with me. Well, he didn't have much of a choice either, I'm the one that cooks in our house...

Personally I don't get bored of the same foods but he does, so he's starting to get a little anoyed at having broccoli and coliflower almost daily, I'm ok with it. Also he says he does not miss bread or rice or pasta as much as he misses sweets... Any tips on how to please his sweet tooth without messing up with the carbs?? Are there any kind of carb free candy?? I already bought different flavors of sugar/carb free jello but it seems not to be working...

But then again, WE LOST 8lbs on the first week!!! Woo hooo!! I'm ready for next week and looking forward for next sunday... This week we weighed ourselves everyday.. But for next week we made a pact and we will only wiegh ourselves until sunday.

All right please keep posting, makes me feel so good to know y'all are walking this path with us.

Take care!! Kee it up !!

                    Re: Too many years ...

                    >>( I truly believe guys loose it easier)>>

It's because they have more testosterone.

                    >>I'm the one that cooks in our house...>>

Then how did he get the corn and the potatoes? And ... why are they still in the house?

                    >>he's starting to get a little anoyed at having broccoli and coliflower almost daily,>>

There's 54 Induction vegetables ... why are you just having two?

                    >>Any tips on how to please his sweet tooth without messing up with the carbs?? A>>

He's not going to like this answer ... you shouldn't be "pleasing" his sweet tooth! Dr. Atkins was quite clear that Induction is a time to get past your "sweet tooth" and get over the cravings and addiction to "sweet". Feeding a sweet tooth doesn't do anything except feed the sweet addiction.

                    >>Are there any kind of carb free candy??>>

Yes, there is. However, none of it is on the Induction food list.

And before you dive in to a bag, check out:

                    >>I already bought different flavors of sugar/carb free jello but it seems not to be working... >>

When either of you have to have a colonoscopy, it will come in handy then. Until then, it's a nutritional waste, and won't help you get rid of the addiction to sweets.

Congratulations on the losses so far!!

Thank you, I'm hoping goal # 2 isn't that far off, I'm slowly getting there. Congrats on 8lbs your first week, that is great. Yes without his cheats he probably would have lost more than that.

I agree with atkinsgal, if you feed that sweet tooth it will always give him problems. Cravings won't go away if you feed them. Eventually it may be enough to make him go off plan on a carb binge. That is why Dr. A was so insistant that everyone do a clean induction. Give it 2 clean weeks and you'll be amazed at how your taste preferences change and cravings disappear. Sounds like you stayed on track and your being rewarded with tons of energy. Isn't that part great. Mom says she can always tell when I'm doing low carb because I get perky sounding on the phone LOL

@ atkinsgal08 : Thank you for your post..

                        * So its testosterone the reason they have it easier.. hummm good to know

*The corn and potatoes he got at 2 different unavoidable eat outs that we had... Even I said "you shouldn't eat that.. he was like " oh just a little bit"

                        * About the broccoli and coliflower, well we can't afford to buy a lot of veggies... just to eat different everyday . i mean we had peppers and lettuce and cucumber also... cherry tomatoes.. but mainly those 2 as they're bigger, more fulfilling, you warm them up... etc.. this week we're adding summer sqash.. yay... Still figuring out how to eat without ""the enemy"".

                        @ atkinsgal08 & poobears1972

                        * And well, lastly about the jello, candy.. etc... I just feel like without that he'll probably jump off the wagon, too hard on him, and OMG he complaints a lot... so I figured out that if at least he could have a little candy or jello when he has that need then he'll more likely stay on track about the rest.

After reading your posts I went and looked at our pantry, searched for things we were not planning on eating but still were there... as you said it.. "why were they still in the house". They're gone.

Ok thats it for now. thanks again for your posts. take care.

Just wanted to say that I can completely relate, as well! I skipped my 10-year high school reunion because I felt fat. My 20 year is coming up this summer and I really want to go! I'm planning to stick with this so I can feel good about myself! Good luck to you and you husband!

Don't forget frozen vegetables ... you can get them on sale ... and they're ready and waiting for you!
