  • Lost 180 Pounds In 2004 On Atkins

I lost 180 pounds (from my starting weight of 410 as a 6'3" man) doing Atkins in 2004. As a strong proponent of this lifestyle for anyone wanting to lose weight and get healthy, I have attempted to be on the frontlines of the media battle over the merits of low-carb. You can read more about me and my weight loss success at my blog called Livin' La Vida Low-Carb."

I would love to help encourage and educate anyone who is doing Atkins and has any questions or concerns. I'm no expert, but I can share my own experiences that may help you along your own personal journey.

What a great forum for people to learn more about low-carb. I will certainly add this site to my list of Low-Carb Links. THANKS!

            Hey MotherofGizmo,

Thanks for the information about Oprah. But I sent them my story months ago after they requested before and after pictures and a detailed description of my weight loss experience.

I assume they plan the shows way ahead of time, but some of my low-carb friends have speculated that Oprah doesn't like Atkins and will probably not call me. I'm hopeful, but doubt she will call.

In the meantime, I also sent my story to the Maury Povich Show the other day. I posted my e-mail to their show on my blog. I'm not a quitter and I will keep trying until SOMEBODY calls.

If I can lose 180 pounds in a year, then this ought to be a piece of cake (metaphorically speaking, of course, since cake is loaded with carbs!).

            THANKS AGAIN FOR SHARING!!!

Yea, I had read your blog that you tried to get Oprah's attention once already, but I thought just maybe since they are soliciting it wouldn't hurt to try again. I don't think Oprah is really anti low carb. She has made comments about making them take the bread basket off her table at restaurants because she knows bread is her down fall, maybe just bill yourself as Low carb and not nesicarily mention Atkins in the beginning?

I'm sure you will find someone who would be thrilled to feature your story! Good luck!

BTW, I've been enjoying reading your blog!

                    Here's hoping...

                    Hey Mother of Gizmo,

Yeah, we'll see. When I submitted my information, I don't think I mentioned "Atkins," but rather low-carb, but I'm not afraid to tell people how I lost the weight. But I know the negative stigma associated with the "A" word.

Nevertheless, I am an eternal optimist and know it will happen someday if that's what God has in mind for me. One way or another, it will happen. Maybe by the time I get on Oprah, I'll have my book available. That would be good timing. :nod

THANKS for your kind comments about my blog. I have put a lot of work into it and want to make it a popular destination for people looking for the latest news and misinformation about low-carb and arm them with ammunition to combat the bombardment of negativity that they see regarding livin' la vida low-carb.

It's a neverending battle, but somebody's gotta do it! THANKS for your encouragement. I REALLY appreciate it!

                          Just wanted you to know..

A few weeks ago I found your blog and have been a big fan ever since!

And it's about time! :joy I set up the customized news.google categories "Atkins" and "low carb" some time ago, and your articles are the first I've come across that actually contain accurate information. What I usually see are completely uninformed people spewing negative garbage, or those who don't see the whole picture and offer bad advice on the subject. It was so refreshing to "find" you, and I read your blog every day!

My last great find was ha which has been my main source of inspiration in sticking with this WOL and doing it the right way. I'm here every day, but (obviously) I'm more of a lurker than an active participant. So because I probably won't post again for some time I'd like to take this opportunity to give a shout out to all of the wonderful regulars here who have unknowingly given me strength, inspiration, great ideas, and a solid understanding of the facts about this WOL throughout the past 9 months. You guys are awesome!

livinlavida... I'm really glad you've found this forum, and hope to see you around a lot in the future. Knowledge is power, and I wish you well on your quest to counter society's plethora of misinformation. In conclusion, THANKS!

Thanks, Moongirl! Your comments are an encouragement to me that I am on the right track with my blog and upcoming book. I REALLY appreciate those who have stood with me as I attempt to counter the "other" side's point of view with reasoned arguments in favor of livin' la vida low-carb. Feel free to share your thoughts there anytime or you can drop me an e-mail as well. THANKS to everyone in the ADBB forum for what you do here. We are making a difference, even if it's just one person at a time. That's how you start a revolution you know! :icondance
