  • large weight losses????????/

I am just curious....For those people who have lost a lot of weight, say 30 pounds and up, did you stay on induction for the whole weightloss experience or did you do OWL?

What is your maximum carb allowance while losing the weight?

Kennedy, I stayed on Induction for about 2 months. I was a little scared of OWL and didn't want to mess up my weight loss. When I did move to OWL, I moved too quickly the first time and quit losing. So --- I dropped back to Induction foods for a while and started over in OWL.

I moved slowly through the rungs and now have climbed all the way to the top. I do eat low carb bread on the average of every other day -- just one slice per day. I had a very small baked potato with a steak one time but not since. I don't drink, so alcohol is no problem for me. I don't eat a lot of fruit usually only "berry" type things. I do eat an occasional Atkins low carb chocolate bar and I enjoy macadamias, almonds and peanuts.

I think I've told you more than you wanted to know. My carbs stay around 35-40 per day TOPS. Some days are less than that.

OWL is the place where everyone has to work out their own choices. OWL gives you the ability to try new foods and if they make you stall, you don't have them for a while and move on to try something else. Everyone's body is different and we all react differently to certain foods. OWL is a great phase. I'm eating better than I have in my life and I feel great. No more meds and 50 lbs. lost. I'm just thrilled as punch!! LOL

      Wow, Congrats on the loss.
I was thinking about staying on longer...but I'm afraid I could get bored. How did you stay on it for 2 months? Are there recepies somewhere?

I stayed on induction for just 2 weeks and then moved straight into a modified owl. I was just too bored with the limited foods. Now, what I do is move up the owl ladder, I am on berries now. I add in owl foods but I keep my carbs below 20 grms. once I get closer to me goal (I have a long long way to go) i will climb the ladder again adding in carbs so that I can find my CCL. So far this has worked for me.

          Thanks Pammie.

I didn't think of that. I can add new food but keep it under 20 grams.

          DOH!

            Kennedy,
I am still on induction. At one time (for a 1 week) I did bring myself up to 25 carbs, but I brought myself back to induction. I have no complaints with it, I actually love it. I plan on staying on induction until I loose 15 more lbs (170). I feel great. I don't want to change a thing right now.

I just did Induction for 4 weeks.
As long as you're losing a pound or 2 a week it's ok to move to OWL.
It really depends on how much you need to lose and how well you can deal with Induction-level foods.

I did Induction for 3 weeks, cheated a bit at Christmas, went back to Induction for about another month, cheated on my birthday, then did a modified induction until about October.

Now, I eat something very similar to Induction with forays up OWL. I never did figure out my level for maintaining (have a hard time counting anything related to food) but it's fairly low and I have to drop well below 20g to lose.

                  Hiya,

I stayed on a true induction for about three weeks to a month, and since then (for the past two months) have been on a modified induction, allowing certain OWL foods, but trying to keep carbs as close to 20 grams or less per day as possible.

Personally, I just don't want to risk hitting a big stall so I am reluctant to go into a true OWL yet. I also still have a lot of weight to lose, close to if not near 100 lbs, so I want to really keep things rolling. For me at least the food choices in induction haven't been too restrictive, as they comprise the foods I really truly enjoy anyways. I am perfectly happy eating grilled meats, cheeses, green leafy veggies, fats and exploring the thermogenic properties of hot peppers .

Most people seem to move into OWL after two or three weeks however, so you would probably be able to and keep losing. If the food choices in induction are getting you frustrated, then move on after the several weeks, if you are happy with them, I'd say there is no harm in staying. The benefits of being happy with this WOE and not cheating or giving up far outweigh the benefits of a very extended induction, so do what you need to do to be happy and keep losing.

I have lost 60 pounds on Atkins. I have done Induction the whole time. I have never moved on to the OWL stage. I do go off of Atkins quite frequently (at least once a month) to eat the foods that I miss, but it still works very well. I started in May and have lost 60 pounds since. I want to lose 40 more which I predict will take me 3-4 months. I basically only eat meat and cheese. I eat vegetables sometimes but they tend to slow down weight loss. I know this is not the healthiest way to do Atkins but my weight loss is so impressive and i will be finished very soon. Hope this helps.

I've been on induction for 6 and 1/2 months. I keep my carbs under 20 a day, but every once in awhile I do add things such as nuts and the atkins bars. I had 134 lbs to lose so it seemed sensible to stay on induction for as long as I needed to. I have yet to get bored with my foods and I eat pretty much the same things all the time. The weightloss is worth it to me.

I did induction 14 days and then did the added veggies and nuts to keep my carbs below 20 net as the 92 DANDR does for the first 100 pounds. they call that modified OWL or OWLDUCTION here. Then I moved to regular OWL. I liked faster speed for the next 30 pounds so I help the carbs to 45. Then I moved up to my CCLL and I was working out a lot and could lose eatting around 115 net carbs a day.
Your level and what you do will depend on your metabolism and likes. there is a test in chapter 13 of DANDR and based on your answers you will know when it is time to move to OWL and if you want to do a modified OWL or not.
