  • Day 6

    Hello Everybody

Well it's Day 6 for me. I don't know if I've actually lost weight - the faulty scales that read at one try 16 1/2 stone, next try 9 stone 7, next try 15 stone 8 - have been dumped in the bin and I'm awaiting the arrival of new ones. So I'm not sure how much weight I've lost so far. Although I got VERY excited this morning when I put my rain coat on for the first time in a long while, I could actually bend down and pick something off the floor without the buttons exploding open!!!
My husband bought a take-away at the weekend and offered me a slice of garlic bread - I didn't even flinch. I don't think it was total thoughtlessness on his part, because of what I'm eating he can't associate it with being on a diet.
Despite that I don't get a lot of supposrt at home and I'd just like to say a HUGE thank you to everyone on this board. Reading the stories and experiences is just so overwhelming helpful. So far, it's been a fairly painless process, although yesterday I did actually think about sweet stuff for a while. With having a house ful of kids, it's hard to walk past the chocolate mini rolls, but so far I just stick my nose in the air disdainfully.
(Nearly cracked a bit on Sunday when I found my mother had had a stroke, but I managed to rationalise it - what's the point of me eating rubbish it's not going to make her get better!)
A massive THANK YOU and tremendous GOOD LUCK to all of us! :clapping

try making the mock danish if you haven't tried it yet. it helps me get over my sweets craving.

With time it is getting easier to pass things up, like fresh baked foccia bread and chocolates that was offered to me at work. I resisted, YEAH!
    Cheers!

          Re: Day 6

          Hello Squeeker :wave
Congratulations on the looser raincoat and turning down the garlic bread :clapping

Sorry to hear about your mum, all my best wishes and prayers to you both :hug

I thought your quote was a good motto for the times when any situation attacks us and makes us long for carby foods when Atkineering :yes
what's the point of me eating rubbish it's not going to make her get better!
It might help anyone thinking of giving in if they say to themselves:
What's the point of me eating rubbish - it's not going to make ****** get better! (insert your own crisis situation here)
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

            Thanks

            Hi everyone

Thanks again to everyone who's replied. The other huge benefit I've found is that I used to have to take dozens of heartburn tablets at night, and spicy food was like a nightmare to me for that reason. Since I've been on Atkins I haven't had to take one single one :joy which is amazing to me, because I hate the things. I don't know why this should be, but for whatever reason, I'm grateful.
My mother is ok, I suppose. I rang her yesterday and she told me she was fine - I think she may have had a couple of minor strokes before. However when I asked her if she was resting she said no, she was going out for some cigarettes. I'm not one to preach having the same filthy habit, but after my father had a massive stroke then died two years later of lung cancer, you'd think the penny would drop with the both of us - especially after my mother herself has had more minor strokes recently. I want to get some weight off first and then tackle that problem, I've done it before and I can do it again. But it's scary, this family pattern of addiction and the consequences.

Just to reassure you if I can. :hug
My DH (now 73 yrs old) had a couple of strokes about 5 years ago although he was hospitalised in a coma he recovered perfectly within a day or so and has had no after effects at all.

As for the smoking issue - maybe when you are well on your way with your Atkineering and feeling confident in being able to follow it you can persuade your mum to try the giving up with you?
