I have been eating like crazy since starting induction. I have been following the allowed foods list, but i have been eating meat like crazy to get rid of my hunger. I was wondering if eating too much meat is the same *** going over my 20 carb per day limit. This morning i ate to sausage patties, cup of lettuce and an egg with decaf and three packets of splenda. Around 3pm, i ate 20 hot wings. At around 6:15pm i ate 1 large grilled leg quarter with a cup of lettuce. Now it's 9:41pm and i am eating fried cornbeef that i mixed with 3 eggs and onions and scrambled. Then i poured it on a bed of lettuce. I have already drinken my water for today and am still going.

I suggest plugging all your foods into fitday.com. I've had some days where I've eaten 2700 calories!!! That's like 1000 over where I should be. The only way to tell if you're really eating too much is if you aren't losing weight. Too much protein will definitely stall your weight loss (does someone have the physiological reason for this? Something about protein converting to glucose or something...)
From what you've posted, it is a lot of food but it doesn't sound like TOO much. How many days have you been on induction? Have you weighed or measured yourself?

Hey cutie! You're looking hot!
You can't technically eat too much meat, per se, but you want to watch the carb count of the veggies you're having. If you haven't exceeded the 20 carbs (including eggs which contain about .6 carbs a piece), you're fine! Some days we're more hungry than others. Since protein is self-limiting, you will fill up and you will require less food as time goes by.
I'm proud of you for keeping tabs on the Splenda. It sounds like you're conscientious.
It's also one of those things that when people start Atkins they can't believe they can eat-- a lot! *lol* And then your appetitie will go away. And you'll still lose weight even eating what you think sounds like a lot!

lol @ cleo, you make me laugh I swear!
But yeah he does look good ! :wave :nod so i do agree with you there!
i would follow the advice of plugging everything into fitday.com as was suggested, it will help you sort out your foods you are eating. You may feel more hungrier the first few days, but your hunger will die out after a bit, and also you should make sure your fat content is around 65% of your diet (which you will be able to tell from fitday.com) because protein and fat together will fill you up, and you won't be as hungry.34 yr old Female

I think we eat a lot more during induction because our bodies are actually craving carbs. It's like.. your body is telling you to eat because it wants carbs.. but you keep tricking it by only eating protein.
Once we're over carb-addiction it subsides a bit. I was ravenous during the first week of my induction, but I am doing much better now (mostly.. I still have some days like that though.. but I'm only on my fourth week).

Re: Since induction, i have been eating like crazy.
Watch the hot wings and the sausage to make sure they don't contain added sugars. Those sugars can cause cravings/hunger/etc. So eating them won't do you any favors.Originally posted by LJBOYCEI have been eating like crazy since starting induction. You're over on your vegetable servings too. You're allowed a total of 3 cups of veggies daily. Either 3 cups from the "salad list" or 2 cups from the "salad list" and 1 cup from the "other veggie list".
The final thing is are you eating until you are "stuffed/full" or are you eating only enough to satisfy your hunger? A quick way to figure out if you're "stuffed" is when you get up from the table, if you can feel the weigh of the food you just ate sitting there, the chances are you are "stuffed". You might need to slow down your eating to help avoid this. See, it takes about 30 minutes for your brain to register that you have enough food in your stomach. So if you inhale 20 wings in 15 minutes, your brain won't have time to tell you to stop eating.
Also, open up a fitday.com account to see what your fat/protein/carb percentages are. During Induction, the calories from fat should be about 65%, from protein about 30% and from carbs about 5%. You don't need to eat "alot" of protein on Atkins. Atkins is a high fat diet.
In fact if you over-eat your protein, your bod will convert the excess to glycogen and fat.

LJBOYCE,
First of all, congrats on starting Atkins. :hug I am a newbie here also, and this is my 9th day with a 14 pound loss. :icondance
I, myself, am not much of a meat eater, so eating more meat then I normally do was hard for me. I was hungry for the first 3 days, then my hunger subsided. Since this is your 5th day, I would say that in a few days you shouldn't be as hungry. But keep in mind that eating too much protein will also cause weight gain or no loss at all. I agree with the others, and think it's a good idea to start putting you food items that you eat on Fitday.com. That has helped me alot as well and you will find it helpful and then sooner or later, you will see the pounds coming off. :icondance

Well, your fats, protiens and carbs have to equal 65%, 30% and 5% daily. Once you go into fitday, and list all of the foods that you have eaten for the entire day, you will see the precentages. You need your fats and protiens. You need to eat more mixed vegetables other then just lettuce.

You are trying to get used to eating carbs again, so too many veggies initially (even lettuce) could overstimulate your blood sugars.
Also, you're getting trace amount of carbs in cheese, sour cream, olives, eggs and other items, so it all adds up per day, even if the lettuce itself might only be a carb per cup.

As explained we are limited to the quantity of vegetables on induction. But to get the most value out of your allowed 20 net carbs it would be better to have some more nutritious veggies than just lettuce. As Moochiecat often says - lettuce is just chewy water and doesnt contain much in the way of 'goodness'.Originally posted by LJBOYCEWhy can you only have 3 cups of green lettuce when it is only 1 gram of carbs per cup?
At only a carb or so per cup depending on variety it means you would only have 3 carbs of veggies - and Dr Atkins tells us that over half of our carbs ought to come from our 3 cups of veggies!!
Going by that if you only have 3 carbs of veggies you can only have another 2.9999999999 of anything else like cream, eggs etc - all of which contain some carbs even though sometimes only a fraction of one carb.
So what I am trying to say is make sure you dont only have lettuce but add some one-cup veggies as well as some of the more 'carby' other 2-cup vegetables most days to make sure you are having enough vitamins and minerals and to make the most of your allowance of up to 20 net carbs.
If you use www.fitday.com to log your carbs etc you can see from the 'Nutrition' report whether you are having anything near the recommended daily allowance (RDA) of vits/mins and adjust any pills you take accordingly.Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
