  • Lunch meat - pepperoni slices?

Ok, I will admit it...the lunch meats, hams & pepperoni slices have me confused. How do you know which ones are ok? I read all the labels last night & just don't get it. They all say sugar close to the top of the list & some say less than 2 percent. Sorry if this is a silly question but this one really has me stumped.
    :anger

    Thanks

REading the nutritional info and the ingredients will help you decide if it's okay to eat. Be sure to read the serving size too, because I've seen hams with serving sizes of 1 ounce that contain 6 carbs!

Lots of folks will eat these products if they contain added sugar. Most people will only eat the products where sugar is towards the bottom of the ingredients list.

    It's really up to you.

However, if you notice that your weight loss is slowed, your blood sugar symptoms have returned, or you gain weight, drop them from your menu.

    Editing to add....

Many of these meats, particularly pepperoni/salami, contain a good amount of sodium. Some people are sensitive to sodium and will retain water. So you might want to avoid those products with high sodium.

I suggest avoiding all deli meats while on induction with the sole exeption being pepperoni and salami. Opt for pepperoni because you can get that carb-free, whereas all of the salami that i found has some carbs.

Basically, if you go up to the deli counter, look at the log of pepperoni and read the lable. If it has zero carbs, then tell them to slice the whole log up and take it home and feel free to snack all you want on those little slices.

Otherwise, most other deli means (and hot hogs and any of that other kind of meat) require you to look at how large the serving size is. Because, if it says 1 serving size is one slice and it has 2 carbs, and if you regularly eat 6 slices, you are looking at a whopping 12 carbs.

Pepperoni and salamai still contain trace amounts of carbs and nitrates, so do beware when eating these items!
