  • Hello! and more

First of all, hello from Britain! Stumbled on your site via a good old google search of "atkin"
OK, so I'm a 28 year old man, I weigh 110kg that's 242 pounds. My target weight is 85kg ie 187 pounds. I've got and read the book and am now at the end of day 2 of induction.
Problem is, I'm not sure I'm doing it right and keep getting paranoid that I've cheated and hence all that food will pile up... I don't feel tired or anxious or any withdrawal symptoms, I still have my same appetite and I'm just worried that it's not kicking in
Today's diet for example was a cheese omlette this AM, 2x burgers with 2xfried eggs (just the meat bit of the burger), and for dinner some donner kebab (again just the meat) with lettuce and cucumber salad (about 2 cups). Lots of water! I know it's a junky diet but I was out and about... again I keep wondering why I'm getting no side effects and worry that it'll all go horribly wrong. After all, eating so much good food can't make you loose wait can it!

Thanks for any replies in advance

Hi, I am also from Great Britain.

Dont panic too much that you havent suffered with any of the popular withdrawal symptoms. Some people dont, I was one of them. At the start I braced myself for a bout of "atkins flu", but it never arrived.

Also dont worry about the amount of food you are eating (especially meats and fats). As long as the meat isnt processed and you are taking on board the right percentages of Fat, Protein and Carb you will lose weight.

There only two things I suggest you could change from what you have eaten today.

    a) Try not to get all of your veggies in the one sitting, these should be split up fairly equally through out the day.

    b) and Very importantly, please stay away from Donner meat. It is packed so full of fillers (oatmeal, breadcrumbs etc). If you have to have a kebab, go for a shish, as that is pure meat. Obviously staying away from the Pitta, but also dont have any mayo or sauces from the Kebab shop either as they are almost certain to have a load of hidden sugars.

Good Luck, its always nice to see fellow brits on this board.

I have since re-gained a bit of weight, but that is soon to be coming off again!

Hey man, welcome to the forum. You might want to read up all you can on the stickys, (the posts will say sticky on the left hand side in each forum) and get the book and read it, its a must. As long as you eat from the acceptable food list, you will get into ketosis. I didnt have any side effects when i started, some people do and some dont. The book does say you can eat liberal amounts of meat, but to eat enough to fill you up. I think also i read somewhere it takes up to 3 days to kick into ketosis. Im sure the seasoned atkiners will correct that if i qouted it wrong. lol.

        eat and be merry

Welcome Dr! Eating good food is the key to losing weight.

Our bodies love good food and they are far more willing to release those extra fat stores when we prove we won't be starving them again.

Yeap, that's what I was thinking too. Problem is today I had no choice other thank food outside for lunch and dinner, and my brother (who's done really well on atkins a while back) bought me a donner saying that he used to have some while he was on it. I'll avoid it next time though, thanks for the tip. Oh well, guess I'll keep the faith and carry on. It's only day 2 anyway, so I'm sure things will go fine....

          Thanks for the support

Hi DrSbaitso welcome to ha from another brit :wave

My lifesaver on Atkins when out and about during the daytime is the good old 'all day breakfast cafes'
Fried eggs with grilled or tinned toms and mushrooms is my 'safe choice'.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

                  he he
that's a good idea, egg and mushrooms. cool.
How's it going Johnny on day 7? notice any differences

On a side note, I keep peeing! I woke up twice last night to pee (like a diabetic lol, no disrespect though). I guess it's the diuretic effect of ketosis...

Good for you, not wishing to get to graphic, but I hope your pee was clear? That is a good sign. Ideally you should be drinking enough water so that your urine is clear.

For the cinema this afternoon, try a ice cold bottle of water. And how about smuggling a few baby bels in? Cheese makes a handy snack, but limit it to 3-4 ounzes a day only.

                          Hi :wave
I'm from the UK too, currently on Dqay 13. I noticed the weeing thing, I was like a regular Niagra for about three day's and then it wore off. I usually drink loads of fluid anyway, so it was a surprise when I went into overdrive.
I suspected that about the kebab thing, now when the rest of my family order a take-away I just get the chicken kebab with the salad.
                          Best of luck!!

Ok, so I was paranoid again today and bought some ketostix, and was delighted to see that I had +++ ketones chucked out (sorry!)
I think I've figured out why I'm so worried. Whenever I have a meal I feel just as full as when I was eating before Atkins, and as such I don't feel like I'm "dieting", ie staying hungry and feeling that there's room for alot more. Each meal I have satisfies me for a long time and it just makes me wonder how this mean I loose weight... I know it's silly but it's just my mind playing tricks on me.

Oh and baby bels sounds great, I love those. I don't suppose cheese strings are ok no?

Check the ingredients on the packs to make sure they contain nothing that is not on the list.
US-based members eat them so unless European strings have different ingredients they should be fine.
Remember the limit on cheese though!
