  • Atkins for the 3rd Time

:wave Hello all - although this will be my third attempt at the Atkins Diet I truly believe this lifestyle really works. Getting started on the other hand is another story. After reading several posts I am truly inspired and excited about starting again. I really hope that in my time of need and despair I can count on your support. The first time I tried this diet I had great results...the weight just melted off. However, a group of colleagues and I never read the book. I remember one of us going out and buying the book and jumping right into the the induction phase not realizing that this would have to be lifestlye change instead of just a diet. Well I have purchased my own copy of the book and I am convinced that this is the road I would prefer to travel.

It has been about a year since I tried doing induction. I would love to hear from anyone who can offer me any advice.

Wow..thanks...great advice because that seems to be the hardest thing for me..getting the water down. Is 64ozs the rule of thumb?

It's indeed a minimum of 64fl ounces and 8 for every 25lbs you want to lose !!!
I always put in an extra 25 on top of that just to be sure.
What I use is these small bottles that I fill up every morning and at the end of the day I want to see them empty :guns
I found it is easier to drink from small bottles than to use a big one or glasses.

I think it depends on how old your children are if it is smart to let them do atkins or not, but I am no expert on this, it's just something I read on a dutch atkins board, so I leave it to the 'better schooled in atkins' people on the board to answer you to that one.
Great having you joinng our numbers and I am really know for sure you will love it here, I sure know I do !! :nod

It is so great of you to try again! Never give up!!!

Advice: Read the book and drink lots of water as mentioned...It is hard for me to drink water...I feel like I am drowning! lol

Remain focus and eat only what is on the list at least that is what I am tempting to do as this is my eigth day of Induction...

                Good Luck!! :guns

Children are still growing and need good sources of Vitamins.

Let me ask you this, Does feeding your children Whole grains, fresh fruit and vegetables and nice cuts of meat and in the mean time, totally eliminating sugar and refined carbohydrates such as candy or white bread.....

Does that sound like a good idea? :yes

I also had a hard time swallowing all the water at first. An experienced Atkins person told me to drink it through a straw. Guess what it takes no time to suck up 64 ounces and more through that straw. Go figure.

                        Welcome to ha

I also started Atkins once before, not totally grasping the whole idea. Some of the pitfalls to avoid:

                        * Don't look for a "substitute" for everything you're used to eating. Instead, just learn to do without. I was using a lot of the Atkins products my first time on the program... everything from candy bars to the mixes. IMO, this defeats the purpose of this WOE, which is to eat whole, unprocessed, healthy foods.

                        * Learn to hate all the junk that we've been consuming for years. I had to adjust my thinking before I realized that most of the crap I ate everyday wasn't even real food. Look at an oreo cookie, for example. In no way does this resemble anything we should be eating -- atkins or not! I've started to view these foods as chemical creations and it really takes away the appeal for me.

                        * Stick to the basics. I'm on week 3, and so far I've been sticking to meats and veggies. I'm not bored yet, and I haven't really even started to try new recipes yet! If you start to get bored, check out the recipes section of this board.

And finally: NEVER let yourself be unprepared. Keep cooked meats in the fridge as a last resort (if you don't have time to cook a whole meal), and plenty of veggies stocked. The easiest way to fall off the wagon is to not have the right foods available when you need them.

                        Enjoy your atkins adventure!
